Zero is the main antagonist of the "Dark Matter" saga of the Kirby franchise. The leader of the Dark Matter, Zero tried using its army to spread darkness all across the universe.
Its Evil Ranking[]
Its Villainous Deeds[]
- As the creator/leader of the Dark Matter species, it is responsible for nearly everything they do.
- Launched a full scale takeover on Popstar after Dark Matter Blade fell, using Dark Matter to possess various powerful Dreamlanders.
- Attempted to kill Kirby (and potentially Gooey) after they entered the Hyper Zone.
- Invaded Ripple Star, using the Miracle Matter to possess the Fairy Queen and turn the entire planet dark.
- Using its minions, it tried to steal the Crystal from Ripple Star, and the aftermath of its attack on Ribbon caused the Crystal to shatter.
- Invaded multiple lands once again, sending Rimuri, Rimura, and Rimuro across Dreamland, possessing numerous denizens.
- Attempts to kill Kirby and Ribbon once more after the defeat of Miracle Matter.
- In the non-canonical bad ending, Zero is still in control of the Fairy Queen, letting it continue working on its plans while getting away unscathed.
Why Doesn't It Stand Out?[]
- It's a generic doomsday villain, lacking any sufficient characterization for Pure Evil or Near Pure Evil.
- Its goals and much of its crimes ultimately rely on fridge horror, as its goal of blanketing the world in darkness is too vague to grasp its consequences.
- Additionally, while the Dark Matter that it's in control of does possess quite a number of people, the possessions aren't given all that much weight, as no one who is defeated while possessed seem all that much worse for wear.
- It suffers from moral agency issues as it's heavily implied it was made completely of pure darkness and evil, to the point where the Love-Love Stick, a weapon made of pure positive energy, kills it.
- It ultimately fails the Heinous Standard set by the series' later villains. Examples of such villains: Star Dream, Dark Meta Knight, Queen Sectonia, Dark Nebula, Fecto Elfilis, it’s own evil half Fecto Forgo, and Void Termina, all of whom accomplished and/or attempted much worse with similar or less resources. Even King Dedede is more heinous than it, because he stole all the food in Dream Land, potentially starving them to death (as stated in a Kirby's Dream Land manual).
Trivia[]
- Despite the similarities between them both, the actual relationship between Zero and 0² are unclear, as it's unknown if 0² is Zero itself, a reincarnation of Zero, or just its successor using Zero's body as a host. If they are separate entities, this would make both of them worse, as both would have committed less crimes while still having the same preventions.
