Yuri Briar is a secondary antagonist from the action-comedy manga/anime series Spy x Family.

He is the younger brother of Yor Forger who secretly works with the State Security Service, the Ostanian counterintelligence responsible for capturing spies on the country. He's the self-proclaimed arch-nemesis of the spy Twilight and is dedicated to capturing him and bringing him to justice.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • He works for the SSS, a morally questionable agency that is well-known to kidnap, torture and kill those who are "enemies of the state".
  • Has an unhealthy and borderline creepy obssession with his sister to the point that he hates Loid just for marrying her. This petty hatred for his brother-in-law also extends to his daughter, Anya, whom Yuri dislikes solely because of her relations to Loid and jealousy of Yor's attentions to her.
  • Although he's genuinely affable, he has no qualms with torturing people to extract information from them and is shown to do this on a regular basis with no hesitation. It is also heavily implied that Yuri might have sent people to the electric chair and, judging by the SSS's track record, there's a high possibility that some of these people were innocent.
  • In his first full appearance in the series, he tortures a man by the name of Jim Hayward by slamming his face in an ashtray.
  • During his first meeting with his brother-in-law, Yuri acts hostile towards him for no reason at all, even though Loid was nothing but kind and hospitable to him throughout the whole ordeal.
  • He forces Loid and Yor to kiss eachother in front of him in order to prove the legitmacy of their relationship. It's worth noting that Yor was extremely embarassed by the request and had to get herself drunk in order to comply with him.
  • Before storming out of the Forger household, Yuri threatens to execute Loid, but cuts himself off before finishing his sentence as to not blow his cover.
  • The next day at the SSS headquarters, Yuri accuses Loid of being a spy with no proof whatsoever, saying that he even wanted to bug their bedroom, though he quickly retracted his statements as he realizes it could possibly catch Loid and Yor in a "intimate moment".
  • He fantasizes about executing Camilla after seeing her being mean to his sister during their cooking lessons, only stopping when she tells Yor that she should divorce her "hot husband".
  • He helps the SSS protect the double agent, Winston Wheeler, who had stolen sensitive information from WISE.
  • During the Mole mission, Yuri crosses paths with Twilight and tries to kill him in order to satisfy his personal vendetta against him.
  • Later on when discover and connect the dots, theorizing with Loid and Twilight being the same person, he attempts to prove they are the same person or not.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • While passing the general baseline, he does not pass the high in-series heinous standards since he's just an obsessive jerk and a comical relief and other villains have done worse things and with less resources than him, including the series' two Pure Evil villains, Keith Kepler and Snoops, who both almost commited mass murder and caused a war through their actions.
  • He has a genuine tragic backstory since his parents died during the war and he was raised by his sister who motivated him to become the best to help her. His warped moral compass and sister complex is also, in part, a result of his difficult and sheltered childhood, which severely stunted his emotional development.
  • He's on & off, and will ocasionally do debatably heroic acts such as helping the SSS crack down the Red Circus operation, in order to save his niece. He also often fills in a neutral role for most of his appearances and serves as merely a comedic foil to Loid, with the moments where he's taken seriously being more impactful and far in between.
  • He had a pet the dog moment where he had to privately arrest a journalist who was publishing false information for money to his family away from the presence of his elderly father in addition to assuring him that his father will receive financial help something that the journalist is completely grateful for.
  • He had some standards about infidelity since he only tortured a suspect when he realized that he was selling information only to make money and date women despite being married.
  • He is too comical since mostly of his actions outside of his SSS work are played for laughs. Although he's taken seriously in universe, some scenes detract from his villainy such as his exaggerated obsession with his sister.
  • He's genuinely affable as, although he has a cruel and ruthless side to him, his friendly demeanor he puts up when interrogating people is shown to be genuine and he's doted by his coworkers to he "cute like a puppy".
  • He is an anti-villain since he genuinely thinks that he is doing a greater good and ultimately is simply motivated by the thought of making Ostania a better country for his sister to live.
  • Besides his sister, Yuri is shown to care for a few other people, such as his neighbor Dominic and his coworker and college acquaintance, Chloe, both of which Yuri appears to have a genuine friendship with.
  • Though he hated Anya at first because she is Loid's daughter, he sorta subverts this when his sister had him help Anya study and eventually got along with her during that event. Though he still disliked the fact her father is Loid since he still thinks Loid is her biological father.
