~ The Doctor releasing Yarnaby to hunt the Intruder. |
Quinn Navidson, better known as Experiment-1166: Yarnaby, is the secondary antagonist of Safe Haven, the fourth chapter of the 2021 indie horror video game Poppy Playtime.
He was an orphan at Playtime Co.'s orphanage who was mentored by Harley Sawyer due to his physical abilities and uniqueness among other children. After being transformed into a Bigger Body recreation of Playtime's toy Yarnaby, a lion with rainbow fur, Quinn lost all his intelligence and sapience, becoming a glorified dog groomed into being the Doctor's loyal pet and bodyguard.
He was voiced by Ben Rooker in his cardboard cutout seen in Chapter 4.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- Even before the Hour of Joy, he was aggressive towards and try to attack anyone that isn't Harley Sawyer.
- He participated in the Hour of Joy, where almost everyone in the Playtime factory would be slaughtered as revenge before being devoured for survival. While he wasn't seen killing anyone on-screen like the others, his snarls could be heard in the Warden's tape - which took place during the Hour, thus confirming his involvement.
- He very likely took part in killing and cannibalizing the toys in the Prison under Harley's orders. A questionably-canon trailer shows him apathetically crushing a living toy with his foot and presenting the Doctor the corpse of another small toy.
- He tried to kill the Intruder on Sawyer's orders.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- While Yarnaby passes the baseline thanks to his participation in the Hour of Joy, he fails the system standard of Poppy Playtime as every other toy did that, and he does nothing else to stand out from the crowd.
- He is without a doubt one of the most tragic characters in the series. He was originally Quinn Navidson, an innocent young boy at the Playcare orphanage who was considered an outcast due to his unsettling behavior of ripping off heads from toys to make them prettier. He would be taken in as a student by Harley Sawyer, who took interest in his physical abilities, only to be betrayed and transformed into an experiment that lost all signs of human sentience. Sawyer would then groom Yarnaby, who was originally friendly, into being his personal bodyguard and acting aggressive towards any other employee. Upon Sawyer's transformation into an experiment, Yarnaby would fall into a depression over losing his master and be abandoned by Playtime's staff for not having anything useful to his name. Only after the Hour of Joy would Yarnaby reunite with the Doctor, who'd order him to slaughter the other toys in the prison for his personal amusement. He's been rightfully described in promotional material as having been a failure in anything but the fact he survived.
- This also includes his death, where he is horrifically burned in lava while screaming in agony. This also makes him a scapegoat, as he didn't deserve anything nearly as cruel.
- Due to his devolution into a rabid animal who attacks anything he sees, he lacks any personality. This also causes him to have moral agency issues.
- He has genuine and undying loyalty towards Harley Sawyer, having been groomed specifically into serving as his bodyguard, though Sawyer only viewed him as a tool, not showing genuine care.
Trivia[]
- Some fans speculate that Yarnaby is behind the mountains of dead toys seen at the beginning of Chapter 4 and in the No Man's Land. If confirmed, he would easily be Inconsistently Heinous due to his massive kill count, even by toy standards.
