~ Kestler harassing a victim he's stalking

Willie Kestler is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode “Perennials”. He is a rampaging killer of people he fears are after him based on paranoid delusions about reincarnation and his supposed past life as serial killer Russell Smith.

He was portrayed by Bill Tangradi.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Prior to the events of the episode, he abducted and murdered Charlie Clayton, whom Kestler believed to be the reincarnate of Taylor Lynn Crover.
  • In the cold-open, he murders Nina "Floressa" Skinner, the alleged reincarnate of Patricia Johnson.
  • He harasses Brianna Wells (Carol Hansen's apparent reincarnate), before later murdering her in her car after her shift finished.
  • He holds Jane Sissler and Kyle Owen hostage, attempting to find information about Jane's husband Ted (one of his intended victims), only to discover Ted passed away from cancer.
    • While he does spare both Jane and Kyle, this was merely for pragmatic reasons, as he still tied the pair up.
  • Using hospital records, he kidnaps 10-year-old Aidan Donahue (a substitute for Ted) and holds him hostage in his hotel room. He then terrifies the boy by explaining his reasons and motive to the boy, before being forced to flee upon the arrival of the BAU and police, but not before warning Aidan that he'll come back for him “in 20 years”.
  • He kills a hospital clerk who refused to let him into the maternity ward, before also killing a security guard responding to the shooting.
  • He holds a baby hostage before the BAU. While he does comply with their request to put the baby down, he also follows up by firing at them, hitting BAU Agent Derek Morgan in the result and causing him to be gunned down.
  • In his dying moments, he laughs at the fact that he'll likely be reincarnated in the baby, only to become horrified when Agent Jennifer Jareau not only carries the baby away from him, but he realizes that his tin of maggots had dropped to the ground, with one maggot karmically crawling on his arm.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • He fails the absurd heinous standards of Criminal Minds to murderers who have more kills to their name.
  • He suffers from Moral Agency issues due to him having delusions about him being the reincarnate of Russell Smith.
  • He is somewhat tragic, due to his mother passing away when he was five and his grandfather terrorizing him under the assumption that Russell Smith's soul transferred into Willie's body when he was born.
