What were you going to do? What if I hadn't shown up? Were you going to kill her? Huh?
~ William Harris berating Steven Baleman.

William Harris is one of the two main antagonists of the Criminal Minds episode "Soul Mates". He is a charismatic serial killer and rapist who preys on young women and teenage girls along with his partner-in-crime, Steven Baleman.

He was portrayed by Michael Boatman.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Prior to the events of the episode, he kidnapped and raped 2 unnamed woman.
  • He never really cared about Steven Baleman and they only became friends for sadism.
  • For months, he hid his murderous nature from his family.
  • Kidnapped 3 teenage black girls, torturing and raping them for 2 days until strangling them to death.
  • Raped Missy Dewald multiple times and inside prison, got Balemen into killing her.
  • Shows no remorse for his crimes, and his "Redemption" isn't out of remorse, but guilt for his family.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • He fails the heinous standard to several killers with higher victim counts and worse torture methods.
  • He genuinely loves his wife and daughter as he's very distraught over them finding out he is a serial killer, and he gives the location of Steven Baleman to save his daughter.

Trivia[]

  • Harris is inspired by multiple real-life criminals:
    • Lawrence Bittaker, one of the “Toolbox Killers”, a duo of rapists and murderers of teenage girls he led, the two meeting in prison and sharing violent fantasies they teamed up to act upon.
  • John Duffy, one of the "Railway Rapists", a duo of rapists and murderers of teenage girls, Duffy being caught first and refusing to confess and give up his accomplice, David Mulcahy, until after lengthy interrogation and counseling. Duffy and Mulcahy also had past records of rape before they met each other, as well as lone records of rape outside their shared sprees.
    • David Alan Gore, cousin of Fred Westerfield, the two making up “The Killing Cousins”, a duo of kidnappers, rapists, and murderers of women and girls with active roles in their communities, Westerfield bailing before Gore was arrested in a standoff.
    • Nick Ruskin, a.k.a. “Casanova”, a serial killer/rapist of women teaming up with another serial killer/rapist, William Randolph a.k.a. “The Gentleman Caller”, to rape and torture women, before being spilt up and killed by police.
