When i was decaying in the void, i thought...Asgore, Toriel, Nobody helped me. They need to suffer for that. I want all monsters to experience the HELL that i had to endure.
~ Gaster explaining his motives to Alloy.

W.D. Gaster, commonly referred to as just Gaster, is a major character of the web series Chocotale, serving as the unseen overarching antagonist of its first season, the main antagonist of season 2, and is set to appear as one of the main protagonists of season 3. He is the former royal scientist of the underground who was scattered across time and space after falling into his own creation the Core, thereby wiping him from existence. After returning, he decides to come up with the idea to enslave all of monster-kind in order to make them feel the pain he had to endure.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Once returning to the underground, he wanted to take over it, and enslave all of the monsters as an act of revenge for leaving him to be forgotten in the Core.
  • He used the evil essence out of Chara and Asriel to create Alloy, thus making him partially responsible for all of her crimes.
  • He, alongside Alloy, started selling excessive amounts of chocolate to the underground, which would prove to cause several problems.
  • He and Alloy tried to gaslight Chara into joining them.
  • He tried to order a seemingly brainwashed Chara into killing her father Asgore.
  • He tried to kill Chara, Asriel, and several others in a fight to the death.
    • Additionally, in this fight, Gaster fires a huge blast which causes a ton of destruction, possibly endangering the lives of several monsters, with it being possible that it may have even killed a good few.
      • This fight also ultimately lead to Mr. Mao (Who Gaster was secretly working with), almost committing genocide on all monster-kind.
  • While he does ultimately redeem himself, he still doesn't display any remorse for his crimes.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • Most of his worst actions, like attempting to enslave the underground and firing a massive laser that could've killed several, are not given enough weight. And thus, he ends up failing the heinous standard to Mr. Mao. Resources don't help him in this case, given how he has access to all kinds of tech, a minion with various powers, and an incredibly powerful super form.
    • While him creating Alloy could potentially make him stand out, his role in most of her crimes is too indirect as he only created her so she could help him with his plans of taking over the underground, and not for anything else.
  • He is genuinely tragic. Due to falling into his own creation, the Core, and being scattered across time and space, which is made out to be extremely painful. While we never see this tragedy on screen, he's still shown to be affected by it, and thus, it holds up.
  • He has a couple scenes that detract from his villainy. Such as him saying that Alloy is bad at naming things. Alloy mimicking him by making her face look like him. And his whole ball appearance pretty much being a joke as well.
  • His presumed death at the hands of Mao is played for sympathy. Furthermore, he informed Chara about his true intentions and lets her go seconds before the blast is fired so she could survive.
  • He redeems himself in the season 2 finale, choosing to help Chara and Asriel on their quest to destroy the six hidden brainwashing devices scattered across the world.

Trivia[]

  • He was originally approved as Inconsistently Heinous. But was later removed due to his worst actions being either given not enough weight, or too indirect.
