Ha ha ha ha! Now that's good television!
~ Vox's most famous quote.

I can’t believe we thought you could handle even something this simple. And do us a favor, if they don’t kill you, go ahead and do it YOURSELF, you miserable FAILURE!
~ Vox berating Sir Pentious for getting caught and heartlessly telling him to commit suicide before hanging up on him. Also his second most infamous quote.

Vox is a major antagonist in the adult animated musical comedy Hazbin Hotel.

He is an Overlord of Hell and the owner and CEO of VoxTek. He is the de-facto leader and "face" of the Vees, a business trio consisting of him, Velvette and Valentino. He is the archenemy of Alastor.

He is voiced by Christian Borle.

His Evil Ranking

His Villainous Deeds

In General

  • He is a tyrannical and power-hungry businessman who cons sinners via flashy ads and more importantly mass brainwashing in order to buy his subpar products.
  • He stalks people and invades their privacy by installing hidden cameras in products, and employs drones as extra cameras.
  • He willingly enables his business partner Valentino's vile abuse and rape of his employees, with a primary example being Angel Dust, who has been left with serious PTSD because of this. When Val is angry and in need of shooting someone, Vox callously requests for his lowest earning employees to act as Val's target practice.
  • While he is heavily implied to have some insecurities, specifically about his rivalry with Alastor, they haven’t been played for sympathy as of yet.

Season 1

  • When he learns that Alastor is back after 7 years, Vox attempts to slander the Radio Demon across all of Hell.
  • Commits mass brainwashing across the citizens of hell to buy his shoddy product. He has been implied to have done this multiple times.
  • Calls in the “Lowest Earners” for Valentino to shoot for his own sadistic enjoyment (though this doesn't actually kill them). He also shows no care when he learns Val tore apart one of Velvette’s best models.
  • In an attempt to stop Alastor from making a deal with Charlie, the princess of Hell, he instructs Sir Pentious to infiltrate the Hotel as the Vees' spy, install cameras, and sabotage Charlie's entire dream.
  • When Pentious is caught, Vox very angrily and coldly tells Pentious to commit suicide and derides him as a "miserable failure". Unlike most of Vox's crimes which are played for comedy and not taken all that seriously, this is played for serious drama, and is the worst thing Vox has done so far. Pentious even followed Vox's suicide encouragement and accepted being permanently killed by Vaggie's angelic spear. Had it not been for Charlie's intervention, Vox would have been mostly responsible for Pentious' suicide.
    • While attempted suicide encouragement is not a unique crime in the Hellaverse given how Blitzo and I.M.P. try to goad Lyle Lipton into doing it, Vox's crime stands out as especially heinous due to how much gravitas and seriousness it is treated, unlike how Blitzo and I.M.P's encouragement of it to Lyle is played entirely for black comedy.
  • When the Hotel gang and the cannibals battle the Exorcists during Extermination day, Vox and the other Vees use his numerous hidden cameras to enjoy the Hotel's failure out of pure sadism.
  • Vox very sadistically cheers when Alastor is defeated by Adam, calling it "Better than sex!". This made Velvette make a concerned/disgusted face.
  • After the Extermination is cancelled, he along with the other Vees intend to use the power vaccuum as an opportunity to seize and take over the Pride Ring.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?

  • While he passes the baseline due to nearly causing Sir Pentious' suicide and cannot be compared to Adam given he has far more resources and power, Vox fails the heinous standards to his own business partner Valentino, a serial rapist who very graphically abuses and rapes Angel Dust onscreen and implicitly does similar things to other employees he owns the souls to with lower resources and next to no power or magic. He is even out-heinoused by the likes of his rival Alastor, a former serial killer with similar resources who tortured and possibly even murdered countless overlords and broadcasted their screams on his radio show. He also fails the standards to I.M.P's Blitzo, Moxxie, Loona, and Millie, who regularly assassinate people for a living and have far more brutal crimes that are shown onscreen.
    • Despite how despicable his stalking and invasion of privacy is, all he ever does with this information is watch other demons fight or go about their daily lives for his own entertainment and furthering his business by catering to their needs. Things such as blackmail and assassinations are purely speculation and Fridge Horror.
    • Vile as his mass brainwashing is, all that is shown is him using this power to make the denizens of the Pride Ring buy his phony products. Once again, anything worse he could do with these powers is heavily reliant on Fridge Horror. The effects of his brainwashing on victims is not explored unlike Val's abuse of his employees.
  • He is too comedic to be NPE, which wouldn't be too detracting as the Hellaverse is a highly comedic universe with even the most serious villains like Valentino and Crimson having their humorous moments. However, it is detrimental in Vox's case because he is given very little gravitas as a villain in comparison to Lute, Adam, and Valentino.
    • His crimes and schemes are very rarely taken seriously (unlike Valentino's or Adam's) nor even played for horror all that much (unlike Alastor's or Lute's) and he never poses a serious threat to the hotel, being constantly outwitted and embarrassed by Alastor. His actions even accidentally help the heroes as Pentious' failure as a spy starts the snake demon's redemption, eventually resulting in Pentious sacrificing himself and going to Heaven, inadvertently making Charlie's plan succeed despite Vox's goal of wanting it to fail. His only serious scene is telling Pentious to kill himself, but everything else he has done so far is still played for laughs.
    • Him watching the fight between Alastor and Adam, throwing a tantrum, and exclaiming “This is better than sex!” while the other Vees stare at him is played for comedy and lightens the mood of the moment.
  • He seems to care about Velvette and Valentino as friends, as he hugs them both during his song and resisted using his brainwashing on Valentino.

Trivia

  • As Hazbin Hotel is an ongoing show, there is a chance that his status could change, and he might get worse in Season 2 as Vivziepop has stated that the Vees, especially Vox, will be the main antagonists of Season 2, which means that depending on how bad his actions are, he could potentially qualify as Near Pure Evil. It's also possible for him to redeem himself, and if he does, he will become Inconsistently Heinous. Alternatively, he could get more redeeming qualities as the show progresses. Considering Viziepop described his relationship with Alastor as “complicated and sad”, it’s unlikely he’ll be Pure Evil.
