When they write the history of my reign, sweet sister, they will say it began today.
~ Viserys talking to his sister about when he reclaims the Iron Throne.

Prince Viserys Targaryen, self-styled King Viserys III Targaryen and also known as The Last Dragon and The Beggar King, is a major antagonist in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series and its television adaptation Game of Thrones.

He is the son of the "Mad King" Aerys II Targaryen and Queen Rhaella Targaryen, younger brother of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and older brother of Daenerys Targaryen. He is also Aerys' heir after his brother Rhaegar is killed during Robert's Rebellion. The war, however, turned him into an exiled outcast who plots to regain control of the Iron Throne.

He was portrayed by Harry Lloyd.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • He participated in prostitution trade with Illyrio Mopatis and bought Doreah.
  • He abused his younger sister Daenerys and sold her to a nomadic tribal army to gain power, while threatening her not to oppose him. He didn't even care if she would be raped by all of Khal Drogo's riders, just to get an army to take the Iron Throne.
  • He called himself a true king even if he had never been crowned and did it to annoy the Dothraki.
  • When Daenerys disobeyed him, he threatened and tried to beat her, only to be arrested and then threaten by the riders, in which he was saved by Daenerys and instead of apologizing, tried to order Jorah to kill the riders, lashing out at him when he refused.
  • He smiles when he saw riders fighting each other to the death.
  • He mocked Eddard Stark after Jorah Mormont said that Ned expelled him from his country after paying slaves, since these are too "minor offenses" to be punished.
  • He threatened Doreah because she was more loyal to his sister than to him. Then he prepared to punish Daenerys, only to beaten by her.
  • He tried to steal Daenerys's three dragon eggs so he could set sail and escape for the Dothraki camp to buy an army.
  • When Khal Drogo told him he is not a king he tried to stab Jorah with his sword (even its not allowed in the Dothraki camp to draw swords into the base or fight) and when Daenerys begged to him relax he threatened her baby (and also on her life) to win a golden crown, only to get killed by Drogo. Before having molten gold poured on his head, Viserys plead for life in a cowardly attempt to take back what he really meant in order to live.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • Though he crosses the baseline in the attempted murder of the pregnant Daenerys and his personal villainy towards her, he massively fails the heinous standards of the series mainly due to how generic his actions are for the franchise, with many characters killing many more and raping more.
  • While he didn't love his sister, he possible had good relationships with the rest of his family: his father, mother and brother who were killed in the rebellion.
  • He has some tragedy due to been an exile who had to flee for his life alongside his sister from the rule of Robert Baratheon who even tried to kill him overseas.
  • Like his sister, he has moral agency issues when he fell into madness that is common in her family ("Targaryen Madness").
