~ The Soldier refusing to listen to Captain Walters' order to spare Maria and Shadow.
|
The unnamed G.U.N. soldier is the overarching antagonist of the 2024 Sonic Cinematic Universe film Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
He is a soldier who works for G.U.N. and was given orders by the government to detain Professor Gerald Robotnik and Shadow the Hedgehog to "tie up loose ends". He is also indirectly responsible for causing the death of Gerald's granddaughter Maria Robotnik, which directly led to him and Shadow hating humanity and attempting to wipe out all life on Earth with the Eclipse Cannon in an attempt to avenge Maria.
He was portrayed by Barry Calvert.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- He raided Gerald's base to detain him, endangering the lives of Shadow and Maria.
- While giving chase to the trio throughout a corridor, he pointed his gun at Gerald to kill him, but Commander Walters intervened due to the soldier also trying to kill Shadow and Maria, both of whom were young at the time.
- He rejected Walters' demand to spare Shadow and Maria and fired his gun at the latter despite knowing she was a little girl, causing an energy tank to explode and destroy the facility, killing Maria instantly and endangering numerous other people, including his fellow soldiers.
- His actions mentally destroyed Gerald and Shadow so much that they became misanthropes thanks to the death of Maria, and because of the soldier, the two of them would go on to nearly destroy the world with the Eclipse Cannon.
- In addition, Gerald hijacked his grandson's Badniks to kill Walters before pinning the blame on Team Sonic and Shadow almost killed Tom Wachowski, the adoptive father of Sonic the Hedgehog and a police sheriff upholding the law, to lead the blue hedgehog himself down the path of vengeance.
- While his screentime is very brief, he was shown to have a wrathful and deranged personality, preventing him from being insufficiently characterized. He also had a clear motive, with that being to follow the government's orders by killing and detaining Gerald and Shadow.
- While he's not as heinous as Ivo, Gerald, or Shadow, he has way lower resources as he's just a soldier with a gun, whereas Ivo has the Master Emerald, Gerald has the Eclipse Cannon, and Shadow has his energy powers.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While he passes the baseline due to endangering several people and having personal villainy towards Gerald and Shadow thanks to being the one who killed Maria, he relies on too much Fridge Horror to go any further:
- The explosion he caused due to his recklessness, while dangerous, was not confirmed to have killed anyone else besides Maria, making his overall kill count ambiguous. During the scene where Shadow's backstory was revealed to Team Sonic, while Walters did mention that the accident "took human lives with it", it's too vague to convey a higher body count.
- Although it's true that he's directly responsible for Gerald and Shadow's descents into villainy, he had no idea they would go as far as they did and attempt to destroy the world, making it unintentionally heinous.
- Since he was following G.U.N.'s orders, it means he is loyal to the group, as nothing suggests it's for pragmatic reasons and making him an Villainy by Proxy because all he did is follow orders from his higher ups since he ignored Walter’s orders to stand down.
Trivia[]
- The Unmade G.U.N Solider is of the many examples on the Unintentionally Heinous Category alongside several others as he unknowingly caused another characters' villainy.
