My folks died when I was in middle school. They were killed in some villain attack. With no other relatives, I was alone. Just me. By myself. And in modern society, when you're someone without roots... Well, not a lot of people can relate to that. I just wanted someone to talk to... All I wanted was someone I could trust and who'd trust me in return. I had a blast. When a person's life starts spiraling, what's the one thing they want? Comfort. Am I wrong? Going after that single-mindedly led to one mistake after another. It wasn't until I hit rock bottom that I realized my biggest mistake of all... I couldn't even trust myself.
~ Twice recalling his tragic background.
It's true that in my life, I kept falling and failing. I got tricked, lost a friend, and still ended up getting fooled again. I must've looked pretty pathetic and worthless to other people. Constantly trying to find myself. But I was blessed with people I cared about. Who could ask for a better life than that? I hope you die, Hawks. What right do you have to look at me and call me unlucky? I was happy with my life. With them.
~ Twice's final thoughts.

Jin Bubaigawara, better known by his villain name Twice, is a major antagonist in the My Hero Academia franchise.

He's a member of the League of Villains and a high-ranking member of its Vanguard Action Squad, and an S-Rank villain. He later becomes one of the nine lieutenants of the Paranormal Liberation Front once it is formed out of the League and the Meta Liberation Army, serving as Blue Regiment tactics commander.

He is a dissociative and emotionally scarred man who used his Quirk to clone himself out of loneliness, but after many clones of himself killed each other in a nine day brawl over which was the real one, he was the sole survivor and became unsure of whether he was the original Jin or not. He is a loyal friend to his teammates (most notably Himiko Toga, who he has feelings for), and his time with them allowed him to eventually discover he was indeed the original Jin. He was eventually killed by a reluctant Hawks once he improved his Quirk so much he was too dangerous to be kept alive.

He is voiced by Daichi Endou in Japanese and Newton Pittman in English.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • He used his Quirk to make a group of clones of himself and went on several crime sprees, becoming one of Japan's most wanted criminals in the process. He also made his clones do everything for him.
  • He joined the League of Villains at Giran's request.
  • He partook in the attack on the U.A forest training camp to kidnap Katsuki Bakugo.
  • He and Himiko entered the Shie Hassaikai as double agents. During the battle between Sir Nighteye's hero team and Mimic, they betrayed the Yakuza group and angered and mocked Mimic (though the Hassaikai deserved it).
  • He sent a Mr. Compress clone to try and capture Eri.
  • He helped the League of Villains massacre the Creature Rejection Clan, not out of hatred for their racism, but just to rob them since the League were low on funds.
  • He creates an army of clones upon learning he is indeed the real Jin Bubaigawara, causing the deaths of several Meta Liberation Army soldiers (though they arguably deserved it).
  • When Hawks offers him a chance a redemption after revealing himself as a triple agent for the Hero Public Safety Commission, Twice furiously turns it down and tries to kill Hawks.
  • Even after his death, he posthumously plays a part in the Final War, as Himiko uses his blood to transform into him and unleash an ocean of his clones that nearly kills Ochaco Uraraka, Tsuyu Asui, and several Pro Heroes.
  • Though he initially had moral agency issues due to his OSDD (Otherwise Specified Personality Disorder) that he developed after becoming uncertain of who he was, he gains moral agency after realizing he is indeed the original Jin during the Meta Liberation Army arc, and chooses to stay with the League, even rejecting Hawks' redemption offer.
  • Though he also had a genuine friendship with Hawks, he obviously subverts it once he learns Hawks was a mole for the HPSC.
  • Despite caring for them, he is very brash and rude to some of his teammates (especially Dabi).
  • He is just as aware as every League member of Tomura's plan to basically commit omnicide, yet is still willing to assist him.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • Though he passes the baseline due to his crime sprees and role in killing the CRC, he holds back on his resources too much to pass the series' Heinous Standards, since he arguably has one of the stronger Quirks in the League of Villains, being able to create an ocean of clones that could kill many people, but the worst he does is kill a low number of people and commit several robberies. As such, he fails the Heinous Standards to Himiko Toga, who used her Quirk more destructively than he himself ever did (and fails the standards herself), Dabi, who damaged Hero Society and tried to blow up himself along with hundreds to thousands of innocent civilians with next to no resources, and Muscular, who has far lower resources yet still destroyed a whole village by himself. His crimes of massacring the CRC and supporting Tomura Shigaraki's plan of omnicide are also shared with his teammates.
    • He also suffers from some Fridge Horror as not all his past crimes before joining the League of Villains are seen in detail onscreen.
  • He is very tragic for several reasons:
    • His parents died when he was still in middle school, leaving him oprhaned with no relatives to take him in.
    • He accidentally ran over someone and broke their arm. Not only did he get a criminal record from this despite it being an accident, but he also was fired from his job since the person he ran over was employed by someone who would have invested in the company he worked for, and refused to after the incident. This left him alone, unemployed and in poverty.
    • He was so lonely he made clones of himself with his Quirk to keep him company, using them to commit massive robberies just to make ends meet, then soon sought excitement outside of his dull life from infamy by making many clones to commit big crimes of terrorism and become a famous villain.
    • His clones soon began arguing over which one was the true Jin, and this escalated into a brawl between them that lasted for nine days, leaving the original Jin Bubaigawara as the sole survivor, but not certain whether he was the original or not.
  • He is a comic relief among his team and has provided many comedic moments, such as constantly saying two contrasting things due to his dissociativeness, his infatuation with Himiko, his childish mockery of Dabi and Mr. Compress, and his overall immaturity.
    • He is also shown to be quite incompetent and screws up his missions often, such as when he unknowingly stops Dabi from finding Yuga Aoyama in the forest camp.
  • He cares for all the other members of the League of Villains and sees them as his only friends, rejecting redemption out of his care for them:
    • Most notably, he is genuinely in love with Himiko and is her best friend, working with her happily and often, and is much less rude to her than any other League member, joking around much more harmlessly with her than with the other members.
    • He has a deep friendship with the League's broker, Giran, who recruited him into the group. Twice feels indebted to him, being truly grateful to Giran for giving him the chance to meet his friends, and was the most determined to save him from the Meta Liberation Army.
    • He is loyal to Tomura despite his destructive and misanthropic beliefs and goals.
    • Though he often mocks them, he is still affable to all the others in the League too, as shown when he conjures doubles of them all against Hawks and refers to them all as his friends. He was also heartbroken by Magne's death.
  • He, like Tomura, has standards and honor, being disgusted at Magne's death, how Overhaul treats his minions and the Creature Rejection Clan's racism towards heteromorphic Quirk users.
  • He is insecure, believing at times that he is of no help to his teammates.
  • His death is played for sympathy, as Hawks only kills him because he was too dangerous to be left alive (and with extreme reluctance), and admits he was a good person, all while Twice thinks of his friends, his last double disintegrating in Himiko's arms as he dies.
  • He is a scapegoat, as he died helping his friends after refusing his chance at redemption.
  • And finally, Twice is ultimately in the Grey Zone, with even Hawks admitting he isn't a bad person, with him only staying evil to help his friends, and deep down, he's just a lonely man who wants to help his only friends (which makes him an anti-villain as well).
