Threeclaws is a villain in Redwall. He appears in Mattimeo.
What Makes Him Villainous?[]
- He is the head slave driver in Slagar's gang, making him an accessory to the kidnapping of the Redwall children.
- He threatens to maim Cynthia Vole if she isn't quiet in order to prevent the slavers from being caught.
- When he realizes that Friar Hugo, Mrs. Bankvole, and Mr. Churchmouse have not fallen asleep from the drugs Slagar gave them, he and the rest of the gang decide to murder them, succeeding in the former two.
- He is shown abusing Vitch, though Vitch is somewhat deserving of it.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While he is a child slaver who sends children to Malkariss, he still fails the baseline heinous standard to Slagar who regularly betrays his gangs so that he can keep the profits to themselves and decided to send one of his slavers into slavery. On top of this, most of his other crimes are bog-standard “kill the heroes” villainy and suffer from Fridge Horror entirely.
- Unlike Slagar, he considers some of his fellow slavers to be his friends.
- In the TV series, he is shown to be upset when Fleaback is killed.
- He was loyal to his boss.
- In the books, he is shown to be horrified of Malkariss along with his fellow gang members, though he still decides to assist Slagar with his plan, most likely because he is also afraid of his boss or wishes to help Slagar out of loyalty.
