The Rat, also known as RAT, is the main antagonist of the Five Nights at Candy's fangame series, serving as the main antagonist of Five Nights at Candy's and Five Nights at Candy's 2, and the overarching antagonist of Five Nights at Candy's 3.
He is a ruined rat animatronic that is possessed by the ghost of the actor that portrayed the character back in his days in the Rat & Cat Theater. He is kept in Candy's Burgers & Fries and has dedicated his life to making the life of Mary Schmidt, the girl he blames for his death, miserable at every turn.

His Villainous Deeds[]
- Even before becoming a ghost, he was far from a saint. The children around the Rat & Cat Theatre describe him as a jerk, mentioning that he gets rather angry at times, he has been known to get drunk on the job, and his ego is so large that he considers himself the only "talent" in the Theatre over his co-stars (which becomes even more big-headed when one considers that one of these actors, the Puppeteer, actually has a diploma in acting and is obviously very convincing in his work).
- He strangles the Puppeteer just because he tried to take off his mask for showing up drunk, leading to the Puppeteer accidentally killing him.
- Even though his death was mostly his own fault, he blames an innocent little girl, Mary Schmidt, for it simply because he was playing Hide-and-Seek with her when the Puppeteer found him.
- After possessing the Rat animatronic, he attacked Mary's younger brother in front of her and a terrified audience during her first visit to the Theatre since the actor's deaths. However, he would quickly recover from the attack.
- As a result of The Rat attacking Mary's brother in front of Mary, Mary is traumatized to the point where she had nightmares often. Mary is forced to face her nightmares and forced to remember the truth she tries hard not to remember.
- In the form of Shadow Rat, he psychologically tormented Mary within her nightmares, attempting to kill her.
- He took sadistic enjoyment upon seeing the Cat kill the twins in the Rowboatics Corp factory and turn them into endoskeletons that would go on to possess the Candy and Cindy the Cat animatronics.
- He tries to kill Mary during her sixth shift as the nightguard of Candy Burgers & Fries.
- He tore the Chester the Chimpanzee animatronic to pieces just for entering his hiding place, although he would eventually be rebuilt.
- It seems like even the other animatronics hate him, since they try to stop him from killing a security guard in the third secret minigame of Five Nights at Candy's 3.
- He kills the new security guard at Candy's Burgers & Fries and frames Candy for it, leading to them all being sent back to the factory.
- In 2007, he tries to kill Mary's daughter Marylin in the factory with the Cat's help.
- Notably, if Marylin dies to the other animatronics in the factory, she is simply reported to have disappeared. However, if she dies to the Rat or the Cat, her brutalized corpse is left to be found by the authorities, with the damage being compared to a bear attack.
- He is overall responsible for most of the horrible events in the FNAC series.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- He fails the Heinous Standard to The Cat who killed 2 children. Not only do all but one of his MEH crossings essentially amount to nothing, but he only committed two confirmed murders across the series' span, one of which was reversed after Chester was rebuilt. While it's implied he played a role in the deaths of the twins, it's not confirmed.
Trivia[]
- He was originally Pure Evil for a long time. However, he was later rescaled to Villainous Benchmark after it was concluded that he fails the standard the Cat and relies heavily on Fridge Horror.
- If it was ever confirmed he ordered the Cat to murder the two twins, that would make him heinous enough to be Pure Evil again.
