| ~ Surtur's last words before destroying Asgard. |
Surtur is the overarching antagonist of the 2017 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: Ragnarok. He is an immensely powerful fire demon and the Lord of Muspelheim who is prophesied to bring forth the cataclysmic event known as Ragnarök - where he will destroy Asgard.
He was portrayed by the film's director Taika Waititi through motion-capture and voiced by Clancy Brown.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- He plotted to bring the Ragnarok cataclysm upon Asgard, thus attempting the total destruction of the Aesir realm and genocide of the entire Asgardian race.
- He tried to kill Odin in the past, when the All-Father battled him and tried to stop Surtur from fulfilling the prophecy.
- He imprisoned Thor when the Thunder God searched for the Infinity Stones in Muspelheim and tried to kill the hero for interfering with his plans of Asgard destruction.
- He destroys the Asgard upon being ressurected by Loki Laufeyson to stop Hela, resulting in her death.
- His actions ultimately lead to the Asgardians having no home to go to and is indirectly responsible for Thanos attacking the ship they were in, leading to the deaths of half their race including Loki and Heimdall.
- While he had no way of knowing this would happen, this does not make him unintentionally heinous since Thanos accomplished exactly what Surtur wanted by destroying Asgard.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- While attempting to commit genocide made him pass the baseline, he failed the heinous standards of the MCU as attempting genocide is no longer a special crime for the franchise with many villains attempting it such as Hela who wanted to kickstart a bloody conqeust onto the universe, Thanos who massacred multiple planets and wanted to wipe out half the universe, and Odin who, prior to his redemption, massacred multiple planets accross the Nine Realms.
- He has a sense of honor because he prefers to fight fairly and never lies or chests.
- He is geniunely affable towards the people who don't stand in his way, such as Thor during their first meeting.
