Villainous Benchmark Wiki
NOTE: This page is only about the original film incarnation of Shockwave as his IDW incarnation is Pure Evil, and thus only the film of Shockwave's info and crimes should be put here.

OPTIMUS...
~ Shockwave in his first appearance in the film.
DRILLER BOT IS THIRSTY…
~ Shockwave sending his Driller Bot to destroy the Galileo Building while knowing that there were humans inside it (like Sam Witwicky and Carly Spencer).

Shockwave is a major antagonist in the 2011 film Transformers: Dark of the Moon. He was a high-ranking Decepticon scientist and one of Megatron's loyal subordinates.

His vocals were done by Frank Welker, who also voiced Soundwave and his G1 version.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Shockwave was revealed to have been one of the many Decepticons active on Earth since the 1560s. He was also present during World War I in 1917. His presence was one of the many things kept a secret by the Order of the Witwiccians.
  • He sends the Driller to attack the NEST soldiers in Chernobyl, killing a good number of them.
  • He went to the Battle of Chicago, leaving the Driller to wreak havoc on the city streets.
  • Upon discovering that NEST soldiers, along with Sam Witwicky and Carly Brook-Spencer, were in the Galileo Building, he orders Driller to demolish the structure.
  • He tried to kill Optimus Prime when he arrived on the battlefield.
  • He showed no sadness over Driller's death and only continued to try to kill Optimus.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • Due to not speaking much and his limited screen time of roughly 2 minutes, he suffers from a lack of characterization unlike his IDW counterpart.
  • He massively fails in comparison to other antagonists in the film series like Starscream, who tried to flood Zambia, Soundwave, who has more kills under his belt and was crucial to reviving Megatron, and Lockdown, who committed genocide against his own race, all of they having similar resources to him.
  • Unlike his IDW version and the other Decepticons, he is genuinely loyal to Megatron and nothing or anyone says otherwise.

Trivia[]

  • Only his film version is a Villainous Benchmark. His equivalent in IDW's comic book version of DOTM is Pure Evil as he has a clear characterisation and more crimes under his belt as well as not being loyal to Megatron.
    • Ironically, his film version was approved as Pure Evil, but was removed due to being insufficiently heinous and loyal to Megatron.
  • It’s theorised that Shockwave tricked NEST into taking the engine part at the beginning of the movie which lead to Optimus finding and retrieving Sentinel Prime (who is revealed to have betrayed the Autobots to make a deal with Megatron for the survival of Cybertron). If this was confirmed, it could affect his status and make him worse.
