Richard "Richie" Kirsch is the main antagonist of the 2022 slasher film Scream, the fifth installment of the franchise of the same name.
He was a fan of most of the Stab movies, but was angry at the new instalment because of its disappointing execution. He met and groomed Amber Freeman on Reddit (specifically the subreddit for the Stab franchise) and devised a plan to revive said franchise by enacting a killing spree to satisfy their enthusiasm against the new installment. He located Samantha Carpenter and started dating her to frame her for the Woodsboro murders.
He was portrayed by Jack Quaid.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- He and his girlfriend Amber plotted to start a killing spree in Woodsboro in order to make a "requel" to the Stab franchise.
- He chased Sam in the hospital as Ghostface.
- Killed Vince Schneider at the bar by stabbing him in the neck (even though he was a jerk he didn't really deserve to die).
- He murdered Wes Hicks by stabbing him in the neck.
- He stole Tara's inhaler as a trick to give her and Sam a reason to come back into the house so he could kill them.
- He attempted to murder Mindy Meeks-Martin from behind when she was distracted.
- He attempted to kill Sam and frame the killing spree on her.
- Him becoming a killer clearly broke Sam as it lead to her having serious trust issues in Scream VI.
- Him and Amber have a petty motive of killing people because they hated Stab 8.
- Despite having multiple comedic moments, none of them detract from his villainy.
- Although his death at Sam's hands is indeed brutal, it doesn't make him a scapegoat since he deserved it immensely for everything he did, even with his cowardice at the end.
- While he does get along with Amber, it's only due to mutual sadism rather than love.
- While he did look somewhat worried when Amber was supposedly killed by Dewey while she was in costume at the hospital, it was likely only for pragmatic reasons as he probably thought his plan would fail without Amber.
- Although he dismissed the guests from the party Amber's house and even comments that he is saving their lives this is false when fact he wants to ensure that there are no witnesses during Ghostface's attack.
Why He Doesn’t Stand Out?[]
- He passes the baseline as he killed at least one person and was indirectly responsible for the deaths of 6 people in total. However, he massively fails the heinous standards to Billy Loomis, Stu Macher, Nancy Loomis, Mickey Altieri, Roman Bridger, Jill Roberts, Charlie Walker, and even his own father Wayne Bailey.
Trivia[]
- He was one of the first protagonist's boyfriends in the series to become Ghostface since the original, Billy Loomis, who would torment Sam, the main protagonist, in her hallucinations during the films.
- In the original script Richie was a single Ghostface and had seven kills. If this script was used for the film, Richie would be qualified for Near Pure Evil.
