Only the toughest can get out of there alive!
~ Rex Dangervest's most famous quote.
Emmet, I am you.
~ Rex revealing who he is.
Except again not trademarking "No regrets", that was a mistake, one love!
~ Rex Dangervest's final words.

Radical Emmett Xtreme Machete Ninja Star Dangervest, more simply known as Rex Dangervest, is the main antagonist of the 2019 live-action/computer-animated film The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.

He is Emmet's evil future self that wants to bring Armamageddon to the LEGO universe out of spite after seemingly being betrayed by his friends.

Just like his original counterpart, he was voiced by Chris Pratt.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • After seeing his friends go on without him after being stuck under a clothes dryer, he got angry and decided to go back in time to cause the Armamageddon.
  • In order to find bricks to create his spaceship Rexcelsior, he destroyed Dr. Emmett Brown's DeLorean time machine, Bill's and Ted's telephone booth, the Doctor's TARDIS, H. G. Wells's "bycicle thing", "whatever Skynet's been using" and a hot tub.
  • While he saved Emmet, it is merely to make sure that the Armamageddon occurs.
  • He told Emmet that the citizens of the Systar System are brainwashed and convinced him to run away from them.
  • When Lucy revealed her true hair, he tried to convince Emmet that Lucy is brainwashed.
  • He convinced Emmet to destroy the cake to end Batman and Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi's marriage.
    • As a result of his manipulations, Emmet did not listen to Lucy's message about the Systarians.
      • Due to all of this, Emmet successfully destroyed the cake, resulting in Armamageddon, where the LEGO Universe is destroyed and the citizens are placed in the Bin of Storaj.
  • He put Emmet under the clothes dryer to turn him evil and make Rex continue to exist.
  • He tried to destroy Emmet.
  • When Lucy escaped from the Bin of Storaj, Rex tried to go back in time to make sure his Armamageddon goes just right.
  • Tried to destroy Lucy but punched a sentient heart by mistake, which contrary to his plans, resulted in the time machine being broken and caused Rex to disappear.
  • While he did accept his fate, this is isn’t a redemption, since it's more out of honor.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • He suffers from Fridge Horror too much, as nothing indicates that the Armamageddon would hurt or kill people and while he put countless Lego people in a storage bin, they wouldn't be trapped there forever and would likely be rescued once the mother changes her mind, as such, while he does still pass the general baseline, he fails the heinous standard to Lord Business and the Joker, who both have less resources yet did much worse with the former trapping many people in a fate worse than death and the latter trying to destroy Gotham City.
  • He's tragic, as he ended up trapped under a clothes dryer when searching for his friends and was not rescued by them, which is played for sympathy. It is even shown he saw his friends move on with their lives while he was trapped, making him embittered.
  • He has some comedic moments that detract from his villainy, such as the entire fact that the Armamageddon is a pun on "Our Mama gets in", his time machine is made from time machines from famous time travel movies, him having a fight against Emmet that is played for laughs, him punching the sapient heart having dramatic music only to cut to outside the dryer where a small explosion is seen and the music stops, referencing Back to the Future during his death and calling it a classic movie older kids get to watch, him expressing regret at not trademarking the phrase "no regrets".
  • He seems to care about his raptors as shown when he yells their names as he sees them taken away by the Plantimals and fist bumps one of them while trying to trap Emmet under the dryer.
  • He tells Emmet to always be upbeat and accepted his fate of being erased from existence and is eventually happy that things work out for Emmet and Lucy.

Trivia[]

  • Rex was once considered Inconsistently Heinous due to the Armamageddon being viewed as an attempt at omnicide. However, he was removed when it was pointed out how this relies on fridge horror as there's no indication that anyone actually died or is it a fate worse than death because of what Rex did, making him a Villainous Benchmark.
  • Rex appeared in a Turkish Airlines safety video promoting the film, Though this version of him doesn't qualify as a Villainous Benchmark as he does nothing villainous within it and is portrayed as helpful and friendly.
  • Rex is one of the first "Pure Good" Villainous Benchmarks to appear on this wiki.
