We will tear down the existing framework and rebuild this world... as a place where people are free to be themselves and use their abilities as they see fit!
~ Re-Destro explaining his ideology

Rikiya Yotsubashi, more commonly known as Re-Destro, is a major antagonist in the manga/anime series My Hero Academia.

He is the President and CEO of Detnerat and the former leader of the Meta Liberation Army which sought to tear down contemporary society in favor of a world where Quirk users could freely use their powers to their own accord.

He was voiced by Hiroaki Hirata in the anime, and by Sonny Strait in the English dub.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • While he talks about freedom, his idea of it only extends to the freedom to use Quirks and Quirk support items, with it being pointed out in-universe that his entire motivation, while genuine, is a front to make more money from selling support items through Detnerat.
    • Furthermore, the series partially shows the consequences of his idealized society where vigilantes ran amok with support items to escalate confrontations with criminals and terrorize heteromorphs, proving his ideology was never built on justice from the beginning.
  • Although he is portrayed to have a positive public image, this is merely a facade to cover his position as the leader of the Meta Liberation Army and to gain legitimacy for his fanatical beliefs.
  • Presumably spent years building connections and gathering supporters of Destro with the ultimate goal of overthrowing the Japanese government to enforce his vision of society, amassing an army of over 10,000 soldiers.
  • In the manga, he murdered his secretary Miyashita when the latter dismisses Destro's book and the MLA, although he regretted the act.
  • Captured Giran and tortured him in order to lure the League of Villains to be ambushed in Deika City.
    • He had no real reason to make enemies with the League other than his personal view that the League had no ambitions other than the destruction of society.
  • Murdered several of Twice's doubles when they attacked his tower in Deika City, then attempted to kill the real Tomura Shigaraki when he destroyed the tower.
  • After his defeat, he aided Shigaraki and the Paranormal Liberation Front in unleashing total destruction across Japan with the ultimate goal of freeing All For One, using Hawks as a double agent to spread Destro's book and his ideology across Japan in an effort to recruit more of the populace to their side.
  • During the Paranormal Liberation War, he attacked Fumikage Tokoyami and later Edgeshot in an attempt to defend the Gunga Villa from the hero army.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • While his crimes are despicable on their own, he fails the in-universe heinous standard to Shigaraki, who managed to inflict much more devastation with significantly less resources (only having his powers and the League prior to acquiring the Paranormal Liberation Front, while Re-Destro controlled his business, political power through Trumpet and an entire nationwide army for years).
  • He is a well-intentioned extremist who believes the freedom to use Quirks will improve society. While this is debunked by the story and the reasoning doesn't justify his actions, it is still played for sympathy.
  • He genuinely cares for his subordinates, being distraught by Curious's death and offering to be killed by Shigaraki to spare the lives of his supporters.
  • He is honorable, often personally engaging in fights with his enemies to protect his allies. And while initially dismissing him, he eventually recognized Shigaraki's drive and ceded authority of the MLA over to him out of respect.
