Pterano has been hunted down for the soul to be collected for the following reason(s): Bog-standard. Archived. Please discuss it on the talk page for this article. |
Pterano is a major antagonist in The Land Before Time franchise. He serves as the unseen overarching antagonist of Don Bluth's third animated feature The Land Before Time, the anti-heroic central antagonist of The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire, and a mentioned character in the TV series. He is the renegade uncle of Petrie and his siblings, and the former leader and boss of Rinkus and Sierra.
He was voiced by Michael York, who also portrayed Tybalt in the 1968 film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- Led at least seven other dinosaurs away from the herd, which was seemingly considered treasonous. This action resulted in them all dying to pack of raptors, with Pterano being the only survivor.
- Works with Rinkus and Sierra, both of whom are sadists and Sierra being a sociopath.
- Manipulates his own nephew to tell him the location of the Stone of Cold Fire.
- Kidnaps Ducky after he finds her snooping around, planning to use as leverage against the adults so they don't stop him.
- Attempts to chase the Gang of Five down to stop them from foiling his plan.
- While his theatrical personality is funny, his comedic moments do not for the most part detract from his heinousness.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- He's bog-standard, as his worst crime of leading his followers to their deaths wasn't intentional, not to mention he felt remorse for it.
- He fails the heinous standard to most other villains, from Ozzy to Ichy to his own minions, who intentionally tried to kill people.
- While his laughably evil persona does not detract from his heinousness most of the time, he has a few moments of not being taken seriously, like comedically crashing into a wall and saying there will be some people he won't miss at all after Tops chases him out of the valley.
- He felt remorse for leading his followers to their deaths. Though he claimed it wasn't his fault, him looking away in shame and saving Ducky due to remembering one of them dying proves he genuinely did feel sad for their deaths.
- He's relatively affable to some people, as he calls out to Ducky in a worried and polite tone, and is overall at least somewhat polite to the other grownups after his redemption.
- He does care for his family, as he tells his nephews and nieces to do as their mother says, despite her already distrusting him and the fact he could've just continued telling his stories, and is defensive of Petrie's safety despite manipulating him.
- He displays firm standards against several things. When his nephew is harmed, Pterano wallops Rinkus, saying he dislikes violence. When Ducky falls into a hole and seemingly dies, Pterano feels he lost someone who's safety he was responsible for, which also indicates he was honorable and would've kept her safe if the grownups did as he said. Lastly, when Sierra suggests feeding the kids to sharpteeth, Pterano is shocked and nearly ditches him and Rinkus due to that.
- He does care for Ducky, as he looks out for her safety and considers leaving her behind after Sierra recaptures her, and his redemption is caused by her near death.
- He's an anti-villainous extremist, who genuinely believes what he's doing is right and wants to make the Great Valley a paradise. This trait of his, alongside his standards, are presented sympathetically, making him an anti-villain.
- He redeems himself in the end, as when Ducky falls off a cliff, Pterano rescues her and then the other children. After returning, he accepts his punishment in order to atone for his wrongs, and be accepted back into the herd when he returns.
