Player 040 is a minor antagonist of the first season of Netflix's K-drama Squid Game.
He was portrayed by Yoon Young-kyun.

His Villainous Deeds[]
- Along with the other members of Deok-su's gang, he got in the line again to eat more food during lunch time, stealing the lunch of other players that were left with no food.
- Upon realizing that the Masked Men do not punish players for killing other players, he helped Deok-su and his gang in the massacre of 27 people in a riot during the night after the 2nd game.
- After the riot was interrupted by the staff, he tells his teammates that they can get the prize money by simply killing all the other players.
- He helped Deok-su chase Kang Sae-byeok in the middle of the riot and they attacked her with the intention of killing her.
- He tried to strangle Sae-byeok with a bed sheet during the riot.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- While causing the deaths of 27 people and actively participating in the riot, allows him to pass the baseline, his crimes are pretty much the same as the other members of Deok-su's team, preventing him from standing out amongst them and his role in the story has almost no impact.
- He cares about his teammates:
- He was protective over his team, offering to watch for them to make sure no one attacks them while they sleep.
- He was often shown hanging out with Player 303, implying that he developed a friendship with him.
- During the riot, he protected 303 when Sang-woo attacked him for attacking Sae-byeok.
- He seemed to be friendly with Han Mi-nyeo while she was on his team.
- He was remorseful over killing the other team in the Tug-of-War game.
