Pegasus J. Crawford (known as Maximillion Pegasus in the English dub) is a major antagonist in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series. He is the creator of Duel Monsters and the CEO of industrial illusions who orchestrated the Duelist Kingdom tournament in an attempt to revive Cecelia, his deceased lover.

In the manga, he serves as the main antagonist of the Duelist Kingdom arc and an overarching antagonist for the rest of the series. In the anime, he serves as the main antagonist of season 1, an overarching antagonist in seasons 2 and 3, a major character in season 4, and a minor character in season 5.

He was voiced by Jiro Jay Takasugi in the Japanese anime and Darren Dunstan in the English anime.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Humiliated Bandit Keith on television in front of an audience of millions by using random kid name Tom (Sam in dub) to duel him using note he wrote using Millennium Eye.
  • After Yugi Muto defeated Kaiba, Pegasus went after him and dueled him through a VHS tape in which he froze all of Yugi's friends, and after Yugi lost the duel, Pegasus stole his grandfather's soul.
  • He cheated in all of his duels by using the Millennium Eye to see what cards his opponents had.
  • Sets up a tournament at Duelist Kingdom in which he hired eliminators to defeat and possibly kill duelists (as it's shown that the eliminators including Panik can be lethal) and it's stated that there were no food stands or anywhere for duelists to eat.
  • Released Ghost Kaiba from the shadow realm after Yugi defeated him and has him duel Yugi again in the English dub. In the Japanese anime, Ghost Kaiba was simply hired.
  • Worked with the Big Five to take over KaibaCorp by kidnapping Mokuba.
  • When Seto Kaiba arrives at Duelist Kingdom and Pegasus confronts him, he steals the soul of Mokuba and after defeating Kaiba in a duel, steals his soul as well.
  • After Tea, Tristan, and Bakura sneak into his private sanctuary, Pegasus sends someone to the shadow realm before attempting to do the same to the three of them before Yami Bakura intervenes.
  • When Bandit Keith threatens to kill him, he dumps him into the ocean, although Keith deserved it. In the manga, however, he turns Keith's hand into a gun and forced him to shoot himself in the style of Russian Roulette.
    • In manga, he also say Bandit Keith cheating and has lose a spirit of duelist thus deserve penalty game, which is hyprocrite because he use Millennium Eye to read Bandit's stradegy (literally cheating) to humilate in the past, thus it's his fault that Bandit Keith turn into a villain.
  • In his duel with Yugi, after losing his lead, he turns the duel into a shadow game which causes Yugi Muto to pass out, nearly killing him.
  • He created the Egyptian God cards, unleashing a dangerous force beyond his control which could have destroyed the world if he didn't return the cards back to Egypt. This did allow Marik Ishtar to steal the cards for himself, setting the events of Battle City in motion.
    • In Manga, he also created Wicked gods to counter Egyptian gods cards which is just created more problems than it solves.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • He fails the heinous standards to both Yami Marik and Yami Bakura who had similar resources and did much worse than him, including attempting to destroy the world. While Pegasus had the resources to do the same (as it was stated by Yugi's Grandpa that Pegasus could unleash Armageddon upon the entire world), he never attempts omnicide, meaning he fails the individual capability.
    • He also fails the heinous standard to Gozaburo Kaiba, who attempted to blow up every major city in the world with fewer resources.
  • He is genuinely tragic as he lost his wife, Cecelia, after they got married. When he received the Millennium Eye, he begun to hallucinate that Cecelia was with him when she wasn't. Everything he did was in an attempt to bring her back.
  • He is genuinely affable and treats his enemies fairly as he allowed both Bandit Keith and Joey Wheeler to compete in his tournament even though they were not invited and he could have had them kicked off the island at any moment. He also allowed Tea, Tristan, and Bakura into his castle despite not being duelists and gave them rooms and a dinner just like the other duelists.
  • He kept his promise on releasing the souls of Yugi's grandpa and the Kaiba brothers and released them as promised, showing some honor. He even allowed Joey Wheeler to take the prize money even though he didn't win it as he needed it for his sister's eye operation.
  • His defeat (and death in the manga) by Yami Bakura where he loses his Millennium Eye is played for sympathy. He does at least survive in the anime version.
  • He was legitimately horrified upon realizing that by recreating the Egyptian God cards, he unleashed a danger beyond his control that could destroy the world, and had the cards he created buried to prevent them from destroying the world.
  • In the anime, he redeems himself and helps Yugi Muto on several occasions, such as helping him stop Dartz by giving him the card necessary to defeat him. In GX, he assisted Jaden and the others for future threats.
