Paul: You know I don't think your girlfriend appreciates the gravity of this situation. If she loses that case, she could lose the kids.

Dexter: That won't happen.
Paul: Never say won't, we live in a world of wills and wonders, that's what I'm tryna teach my children, and they are my children too. Something she seems to forget.

~ Paul's conversation with Dexter Morgan about Rita and the kids.

Paul Bennett is a supporting antagonist in the TV series Dexter.

He is the abusive ex-husband of Rita Bennett, Dexter Morgan's girlfriend, and the father of her children, Cody and Astor.

He was portrayed by Mark Pellegrino.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • During his relationship with Rita, he was very abusive to her, even going as far as repeatedly beating her and raping her.
  • He almost punches Dexter, showing he could have taken physical action when Dexter denied him from entering Rita's home when Rita wasn't there.
    • Noted, he did give up and leave after Dexter was unphased.
  • He constantly violates the restraining order set by Rita, always getting close to her kids which causes more conflict.
  • When he tries to come back into Rita's life he's shown to act the same way he did before, one time he showed up intoxicated, assaulting her and attempting to rape her in which she escapes with a baseball bat.
  • When Rita escapes Paul's assault, by hitting him in the head with a baseball bat, he decides to play victim and file charges against Rita. This gives Paul more power, as he is now allowed to freely roam in close proximity to presumably do worse things to Rita.
  • While Dexter frames him for substance abuse and gets him arrested for violating Florida's Three Strikes law, this is in no way played for sympathy as Paul was seen getting his way due to having legal leverage and wanting to reassert control. Dexter's actions are seen as preventing him from gaining power.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • While he passes the baseline due to personally abusing and raping Rita, he fails the heinous standards to Jordan Chase and his Barrel Girl Gang who has done similar acts to him with added crimes on top.
    • Even if one tries to invoke resources, as Chase was wealthy and had plenty of followers, he still fails to Mike Donovan. A pedophile who raped and murdered three boys with very few resources. Not helping Paul's case is that Mike doesn't stand out either.
  • He seems to genuinely love his children, Cody and Astor as he plays games with them and genuinely enjoys spending his time with them when he gets any.
