~ Jake and Nate before battling with Obsidian Fury. |
Obsidian Fury is a minor antagonist of the 2018 sci-fi monster blockbuster Pacific Rim: Uprising, a sequel to the 2013 film Pacific Rim of the Pacific Rim live-action film franchise.
It is a corrupted Jaeger-Kaiju hybrid, manufactured by Shao Industries who was infected by an intelligent Kaiju. Its only served purpose was to cause and wreak havoc among the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, coincidentally rampaging across Sydney of Australia during the PPDC Summit, so that the drones of Shao Industries be later approved and used following its destruction.
Its Evil Ranking[]
Its Villainous Deeds[]
- It attacked Gipsy Avenger, with Jake Pentecost and Nate Lambert inside, using its overwhelming weaponry and crushing the Jaeger towards multiple buildings, having indirectly killed dozens as a result.
- Having overwhelmed Gipsy with salvo-launchers that contain presumed cluster rockets, one of the rockets damaged Mako Mori's helicopter, which later caused her fate (being key to the majority vote of Shao's drone approval), despite Gipsy's attempts to save Mori from crashing.
- Knowing how successful its mission of assassinating Mori went, it proceeded to escape from Sydney before Gipsy's Jaeger reinforcements arrived.
- However, it later returned to fight Gipsy once again due to the survivng information of its origins Mori had successfully sent to the PPDC.
- It bombarded the production facility with a missile barrage in an effort to cover its tracks, and engaged against Gipsy in a glacier, where it nearly bested the pilots' efforts until they overturned against and outsmarted it.
Why It Doesnāt Stand Out?[]
- It is a brainwashed scapegoat, like Shao's one-pilot drones utilized by a possessed Newton Geiszler with a Kaiju secondary brain as its host.
- Its only purpose was to convince the summit to approve of Shao's drones, who would later wreck multiple Jaegers instead of damaging one, and is never used for any other reason. This factor makes it fail the very high heinous standards of the franchise, as the drones have incapacitated most, if not all Mark-5 or Mark-6 Jaegers of the PPDC.
