~ Number 28 to Byeong-gi.
Not only are you more curious, your voice is different too. Let me see your face.
~ Number 28 to Hwang Jun-ho.

Number 28 is a supporting antagonist in Season 1 of the South Korean Netflix drama series Squid Game. He is a masked worker involved in the organ trafficking conspiracy, helping Byeong-gi with winning the games in exchange for him harvesting organs from eliminated players to be sold. He is also the partner and neighbor of Number 29, who had his identity stolen by the police detective Hwang Jun-ho.

He was portrayed by Heo Dong-won.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • He works as a masked soldier in the Squid Game, a deadly game that kidnaps, takes advantage and kills hundreds of people in debt for the entertainment of the rich. As a soldier, he is responsible for carrying fire weapons and executing the players who lose the games.
  • He, like the other masked men, seems indifferent to the suffering and death of the players in the games.
  • He and 4 other masked men conspired with Byeong-gi to have him harvest organs of the dead players to be sold. In exchange, they gave Byeong-gi extra food and information about the games, allowing to have an unfair advantage.
  • Number 28 and Number 29 personally deliver the organs harvested to be sold.
  • He and the other masked men in the conspiracy, raped a dying woman who was brought still alive to their surgery room, before getting her killed to remove her organs.
  • Tried to kill Jun-ho when he figured out who he was.
  • When Jun-ho had him at gun point, tried to weasel his way out for Jun-ho to spare him, before getting killed, which wasn't played for sympathy and he indeed deserved it for all of his terrible crimes.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • While harvesting organs from the dead players to sell them on the black market and raping a dying woman are enough to pass the baseline, he shares his crimes with the other masked men in the organ trafficking conspiracy and also with the other masked men in the games. As a result, he doesn't stand out.
  • His worst action (the rape of a dying woman) relies on off-screen villainy and doesn't have a large effect on the story.
  • He clearly cares for Number 29 as his affability to him was never a facade until it's revealed he is Jun-ho in disguise.
    • He protects Number 29 (not knowing that it's Jun-ho disguised) and stops the other conspirators from killing him. Number 28 says he owes Number 29 because he saved his life during a dive, showing that he has honor.

Trivia[]

  • He used to be Near Pure Evil for his act of rape despite it being off-screen. However, once it was discussed that it didn't have an effect on the story and he is ultimately part of a group that commits the exact same crimes, he had his NPE removed.
