~ Ash describing the Nostromo Drone. |
The Nostromo Drone, also known as the Alien, is the titular main antagonist of 20th Century Studios' 1979 sci-fi horror film Alien.
It was a lone Xenomorph Drone born on board the USCSS Nostromo from the starship's executive officer Thomas Kane in 2122. After its quick growth into an adult, the Drone went to kill almost the ship's entire crew while slowly turning it into a parasitic hive. It was the sibling of the Sevastopol Drone.
It was portrayed by the late Bolaji Badejo by suitmation in his only film role, with stunts performed by the late Eddie Powell and the late Roy Scammell. Its vocal effects were provided by the late Percy Edwards and the late Roger Dicken.
Its Evil Ranking[]
Its Villainous Deeds[]
- Its entire purpose was to make a breeding project for the imbalance hostile takeover of all species, and it is not meant for any positive welcoming of the sort, only meant to cause pain and destruction.
- It used one of the Nostromo's crew members, Thomas Kane, as a host for it to be made, and when it was about to be fully developed as a chestburster, it killed him in a disturbingly gruesome display, by erupting through his chest until it came out completely.
- In the extended edition, it captured Arthur Dallas and brought him into the painful process of ovomorphing.
- Additionally, it also captured Samuel Brett to be part of the ovomorphing too which, according to his last moments, he was begging Ripley to kill him due to the excruciating pain of the cocoon transformation.
- It mercilessly killed Dennis Parker with its pharyngeal jaw.
- It hostilely approached Joan Lambert and caught her to suffer an unbearable torturous death, with its tail slowly hurting her body, and possibly raped her in the process as a breeding attempt, as shown with its tail going in between her legs.
- Antagonizes Jonesy the cat.
- It made its last stand in an attempt to kill Ellen Ripley while she ran from the self-detructing Nostromo and defended herself from the hostile creature.
- Massacres almost everyone on the Renaissance.
- It's legacy leads to the events of Alien Romulus.
Why Doesn't It Stand Out?[]
- Initially, it was terrifyingly horrific on its own, causing excruciatingly painful deaths on whoever got near it and was planning to continuously create multiple Xenomorphs had it been successful in killing all the Nostromo's crew members. However, it is revealed to be outclassed by not only its own kind, but by humans and androids as well, who in some ways have comparable resources. For example:
- David 8, for making what the Xenomorphs are.
- Ash, for not only being responsible for it to be a threat to the crew, but made sure it was sent to Weyland-Yutani, risking more lives in the process.
- Carter J. Burke, for being a completely atrocious individual responsible for causing hundreds of causalities in a Xenomorph hive.
- Xenomorphs, in general, are made to be completely animalistic and hostile aliens that are a constant threat to whoever are near them and, as Ash mentioned, it had no perspective on what morality is, only doing what it was made to do.
Trivia[]
- In the original ending of Alien, the Nostromo Drone was supposed to kill Ellen Ripley at the end of the film and possess a little more characterization by being able to control the ship on its own and even speaking in Arthur Dallas's voice saying its signing off. Had this happened, the sequel Aliens might have not even exist, making the Drone stand out on its own heinousness and may be potentially higher on the evil moral scaling.
- It is implied that the Nostromo Drone may have raped Joan Lambert with the assumption of her having reproductive sex organs but failed to impregnate her, due to being confirmed to be an MTF on the director's cut of Aliens. If this is true then this would make the Drone more horrifying, possibly an IH, and given the themes over how the xenomorphs were stated have metaphorical representation of rape, this is not a far fetched idea to consider what happened with Lambert's death.
