~ Nosferatu Zodd

Nosferatu Zodd is a major antagonist of the Berserk franchise.

A legendary swordsman, Zodd is one of the Apostles, a race of powerful warrior demons, and a powerful warrior and swordsman, known for killing thousands. He is the right-hand man of Griffith, as well as the arch-rival of Guts and the Skull Knight.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • He started his own carnage three centuries ago before the events of the series began, causing countless deaths (including a loved one).
  • He killed fifty members of the Band of the Hawk when he first met Guts in three centuries later.
  • He overpowered and attempted to kill Guts before Griffith sends a group of reinforcements to distract him. If it wasn't for Griffith, Zodd would have done so.
  • After being angered by their interruption, he proceeds to slaughter the Falcon soldiers to corner Guts and Griffith.
  • Fought Skull Knight after he mistakes him for guarding the gates to the Eclipse.
  • He killed three hundred mercenaries in two years after the events of the fifth eclipse.
  • He killed a group of Kushan soldiers after flying to Albion along with Griffith.
  • Joined the Reborn Band of the Hawk to kill numerous Kushan soldiers along with his fellow apostles.
  • Went to kill Schierke's teacher, Flora, along with his fellow apostles not to interfere with Griffith's plans.
  • He attacked Guts once more after taking Griffith to the Hill of Swords, causing a complete destruction of the cave near Godot's house.
  • Defeated a hydra summoned by the King of Jötnar along with his fellow apostles.
  • Followed Griffith's return to form in Elfhelm from the Moonlight Boy's transformation and intercepted an attack toward Griffith from Guts.
  • As Griffith took an unconscious Casca in his arms, Zodd carried Griffith and Casca and took a flight to return to Falconia.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • While it is unfair to compare him with Griffith as he is a member of God Hand, he still fails the heinous standard to Wyald (who robbed, raped, and killed hundreds of women and children he comes across in the battlefield), The Count (who tortured, killed, and ate countless people under the pretext of heresy) and Bishop Mozgus (who painfully tortured and killed hundreds of people he viewed as heretics), all of whom have similar or less resources with him.
    • While Zodd might have higher kill counts than some of these aforementioned villains and thus passes the baseline, most of Zodd's victims are the enemies in the battlefield; it is implied that Zodd gives them merciful deaths; he is never seen killing innocent civilians, let alone women and children; not to mention he never raped anyone, so a high body count doesn't automatically make Zodd stand out from these vile torturers and rapists.
  • He helps Guts defeat Boscogn, Wyald and Emperor Ganishka, making him an on & off villain.
  • He cares for Guts as he wants to fight him just for strength and competition.
  • He has some standards, such as being disgusted by Wyald's treachery before killing him and not being interested in joining the Eclipse to slaughter the Band of the Hawk members.
  • He has an honorable side as he gives Guts his own sword after having his sword broken during their battle and considers Guts as a worthy opponent.
  • He is affable to Guts and Skull Knight as he wishes to fight them once more as they meet him.
