Someone as insignificant as me will be there when hope and despair collide, and unleash their energy. So please...let me help you...if your planning to kill me, I would be honored to help you carry out your plan. I want you to use me as a stepping stone so everyone can shine. I want you to kill me in a way that befits-
~ Nagito's speech to his classmates.

Nagito Komaeda is one of the main protagonists in the Danganronpa franchise. He was a student in Class 77-B.

He was voiced by Megumi Ogata in the Japanese version, and by Bryce Papenbrook in the English dub. In the stage play adaptation, he was played by Hiroki Suzuki.

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • In order to get the school exams cancelled, he placed various bombs in the gym as a threat. This would lead to Ruruka Ando, Seiko Kimura and Sonosuke Izayoi being expelled when they accidentally took the bombs and detonated it themselves.
  • During the events of Ultra Despair Girls, he worked as the right-hand man to Monaca Towa in the name of "The Servant", actively working against Komaru Naegi and Toko Fukawa.
  • Knowing his luck would help him, he rigged the first round of the Killing Semester so he and Teruteru would clean the safe house alone together, where he would reveal his plans to Teruteru to trick him into killing him, which ended in him accidentally killing the Ultimate Impostor. This makes Nagito responsible for Teruteru murdering an innocent person and becoming a murderer which makes him indirectly responsible for both ultimate imposter and Teruteru’s deaths.
  • He offered to cooperate with any of the students in planning an untraceable murder where he would be the victim, which would allow the murderer to go home scot-free while everybody else is killed.
  • He used a bomb to blow up the hotel lobby and then threatened to use more bombs to destroy all of Jabberwock Island. And while this is ultimately a bluff, it doesn't change the fact that he put the surviving students in danger, something that is a part of his final plan.
  • Using his luck, he would trick the last Remnants of Despair into gassing him to death so they would end up being killed, with the only reason that they survived being Chiaki Nanami willingly giving her life and exposing herself as Future Foundation's Traitor.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • While he is pretty heinous, which helps him pass the baseline, he massively fails the extremely high heinous standard of Danganronpa to many villains who do much worse than him. Although it is unfair to compare him to Junko Enoshima as she has comically higher resources than him, he is still notably outclassed in heinousness by Monaca Towa who forced her friends to kill themselves and sexually abused Nagisa, both of whom have lower resources than him.
  • Some of his worst actions of being a member of the Ultimate Despair were not only when he was completely brainwashed, but also shared with the rest of his classmates.
  • He is a well-intentioned extremist who wants his classmates to overcome despair and create a happy hope-filled world at any costs necessary.
  • He has a tragic background of having his family murdered right front of his eyes, being kidnapped by a criminal and always having bad luck happen to him (although it would often balance out with good things happening too him).
  • He is clearly insane and amoral due to a mental disorder that affects his thinking, however this is a minor prevention because he understands the long-term affects of his actions.
  • He is genuinely affable and cares for his classmates despite his twisted goals and how much they dislike him.
  • He admires and respects Makoto Naegi, viewing him as his hero, and this is genuine admiration rather than an unhealthy obsession, since he started to have some belief on talentless people in comparison what he was in that before, and also he alongside his class saved him and the other remaining members of Future Foundation, also before going in the boat, he took the oppurtinity of greet Naegi, praising him and showing his admiration for him.
  • He redeems himself after escaping the simulation and becomes a hero who helps his class save the world from Ryota Mitarai.
