Moon, also known as Moondrop, is a supporting antagonist in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.
It is the malevolent "night" persona of the Daycare Attendant, the animatronic who patrols the Superstar Daycare. Moon is a humanoid animatronic with a moon-shaped head (hence its name) who is active when the lights are off.
It was voiced by Kellen Goff.
Its Evil Ranking
Its Villainous Deeds
- In general, it constantly fights for Sun over control of their body, which is shown to be physically painful to Sun. By the time of Ruin, their fight for control never ends, with Sun being in pain as it speaks. Moon's also aware of it, as it also hurts when Sun takes over control.
- It apparently traumatized a child in the past to the point they can't sleep without the lights on and wet their bed frequently.
- It tried to attack Abe in the story "Bobbiedots, Part 1".
- Upon being awoken, it tries to hunt down and kill Gregory in the daycare, all the while chanting "bad children must be found/punished".
- Despite all its claims to punish bad children, it is a hypocrite as it has done way worse things than the children he targeted towards, like Cassie who is completely innocent.
- In Ruin, it tried to stop Sun for good by keeping it "trapped in a nap" forever, while being aware of its surroundings. It also tried to kill Cassie when she tries to reboot it.
- Although it becomes the friendly Eclipse upon being rebooted by Cassie, this does not qualify as a redemption as it was never its own choice and never showed remorse for its crimes.
- Unlike the other animatronics in the PizzaPlex, it wasn't hacked into following the Mimic's orders, meaning it has full moral agency and yet still commits evil deeds on its own free will.
- While Moon was programmed to be Sun's evil alter-ego, it doesn't diminish its moral agency as Roxy and Monty - both of whom were made for good - can commit evil acts (with Roxy still wanting to kill Gregory in Ruin and was willing to kill the HW2 protagonist for not giving her a good makeup, and Monty murdering Glamrock Bonnie, both of which they've done without brainwashing).
- Although it helped Vanny to get Glitchtrap in Help Wanted 2, it is unclear if it is the same Moon due to the symbolic nature of the ending. Even if it is the same Moon, this is not redemption since Help Wanted 2 took place before the Ruin DLC where Moon is still evil.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?
- He ultimately massively fails the baseline of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, as torture and fates worse than death are extremely common for the franchise. Examples include William Afton, the Mimic, the Funtime animatronics, Golden Freddy, Gregory, and Vanny. This type of act is just so common that even with lower resources, Moon couldn't pass it at all since he only tortures a single person, on top of this, all of his other actions are bog-standard “kill the heroes” villainy and suffer from Fridge Horror entirely, which is why he doesn’t stand out.
Trivia
- Moon was previously approved as Near Pure Evil on the basis of being insufficiently heinous and having moral agency issues, only to be approved as Pure Evil once it was deemed both preventions didn't apply. It was then removed and moved to this wiki upon it being pointed out that his crimes are not enough to make it stand out and are already shared by other villains in the series, including those who fail the Heinous Standards themselves.
