NOTE: This article should not contain information about his counterpart in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, as it is a separate entity from him. |
“ | Why, hello there! Thank you all for waiting! Long time, no see guys! I am Monokuma! I'm the headmaster of this academy! | „ |
~ Monokuma |
Monokuma is the secondary antagonist of the Danganronpa franchise.
He is a strange teddy bear that initiates a life of mutual killing amongst the students. He is both the most recurring antagonist and the mascot of the entire Danganronpa franchise, appearing in almost every installment of the Danganronpa main series.
In Japanese, he was voiced by the late Nobuyo Ōyama. In English, he was voiced by Brian Beacock in the games and by Greg Ayres in the anime.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- He forced the students of Hope’s Peak Class 78 to participate in a Killing Game where they must kill each other to survive, while blackmailing them with their loved ones as hostages.
- He murdered Mukuro Ikusaba with a thunder spear for showing slight hostility, although she deserved it.
- He takes over the Neo World program by defeating Monomi and stealing her magic stick then forcing the Remnants of Despair from Class 77B into a Killing School Semester.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While he easily stands out as the most heinous character, he has no moral agency or control over his actions as he is a robotic bear controlled by Junko Enoshima, thus he fails the heinous standards to her.
- He has plenty of comedic moments and unlike Junko, it is detracting multiple times as there are many jokes at his expense, basically making him a comic relief.
Trivia[]
- While the mainstream Monokuma is Villainous Benchmark, his counterpart in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony counts as Near Pure Evil as he is an artificial intelligence that can act on his own.
