| “ | And now... my Mecha. It's not only Godzilla's equal... but his superior. The Apex Titan of my own hand. It's time to show the world what you can do. | „ |
| ~ Walter Simmons upon witnessing the full activation of Mechagodzilla. |
Mechagodzilla (メカゴジラ, Mekagojira), also known as the Mecha, is the main antagonist of the 2021 Monsterverse film Godzilla vs. Kong.
It was a giant robotic counterpart of Godzilla created by Apex Cybernetics as the ultimate weapon to destroy all the Titans, and make humanity as the permanently dominant species of the Earth. However, Mechagodzilla would later fall under Ghidorah's possessive influence, causing him to become dangerously haywire, turning against its creators and seeking to destroy humanity itself, as well as killing Godzilla and King Kong as revenge for foiling and interfering Ghidorah's plans.
Although it is largely portrayed through CGI, an uncredited actor also provided mo-cap performance, according to Jared Krichevsky.
It later reappeared in Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong where it was rebuilt by Lex Luthor when it’s remains where transported to the DC Universe from the result of Toyman using the Dreamstone to transport the Titans there. Lex Luthor reconstructs the mecha using data from his visit in the Monsterverse Universe of Apex Cybernetics to make himself the Alpha to tame the Titans and use them all to destroy the Justice League.
Its Evil Ranking[]
Its Villainous Deeds[]
- While it was initially built as a mindless machine made to combat Titans like Godzilla, it managed to attain proper moral agency after connecting with Ghidorah's brainwaves.
- When Walter Simmons was about to finish his speech of revolutionizing the Titan complex with humanity, it destroyed the control room along with him, although it was well deserved for all the horrible things he had done. In the process, it also electrocuted its former pilot Ren Serizawa, the son of the late Dr. Ishiro Serizawa.
- After emerging from Apex Cybernetics in Hong Kong, it proceeds to destroy buildings in its path, killing thousands of fleeing innocents.
- It brawled against a furious Godzilla by blasting cluster rockets, causing him notable injuries. It proceeded to use most of its weaponry to overwhelm Godzilla until Kong stepped in and joined forces with the former to defeat the haywire Titan.
- In the same fight, it attempted to kill Kong using its drilling tail until one of Madison Russell's friends, Josh Valentine, managed to sever the possessed system and allow Kong to obliterate it with a radioactively-charged battle axe by Godzilla.
- In Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Mechagodzilla lured the Titans to Metropolis, thus putting many millions people in danger. It also attempted to kill the Justice League and destroy the Bat-Mech in the process.
Why Doesn't It Stand Out?[]
- While its worst crimes easily pass the baseline, and can’t be compared to the Skar King due to him having a Ape Army and Shimo to work with, it's crime only amount to destroying a single city and trying to kill two Titans, making it fail the heinous standard of the MonsterVerse, as the Kraken who despite not destroying a city itself has less resources who killed many of the people on Skull Island but however it still stands out from the MUTOs who despite destroyed more cities it was unintentionally heinous as Mechagodzilla did it more intentionally and malevolently making it a minor prevention.
- In Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, its worse crimes are attempting to destroy the Justice League and Teen Titans, making it "kill-the-heroes" villainy.
- Another reason it fails it endangering lives of people in Metropolis relies on Fridge-Horror as it is unknown how many people were killed or harmed when the mecha rampaged in the city alongside the Titans.
- While it’s eye beacon riling up the Titans in the crossover did do enough harm to stand out from Skar King or The Kraken since it made the Titans attack multiple locations, it was unintentionally heinous due to it having no awareness of the damage it caused since it is a mindless machine.
- It lacks sufficient personality and characterization, being unable to speak and only acting like an instinctive barbarian. And in Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, it only followed the will of Lex Luthor thus its actions are Lex Luthor's, not Mechagodzilla on its own free will so it fails the heinous standards to Lex Luthor.
Trivia[]
- It's often mistaken as Pure Evil due to it being made from the remains of Ghidorah. However, Ghidorah's remnants combined with the AI and becoming its own conscience was confirmed by Adam Wingard, meaning that Mechagodzilla is his own entity and doesn't qualify as Pure Evil off of its connections with Ghidorah. Neither it being controlled by Lex Luthor in Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong.
