Lifty and Shifty are the secondary antagonists of the adult comedy animated series, Happy Tree Friends.
They are two criminal green raccoons and twin brothers who are also kleptomaniacs, driven by a desire to steal to satisfy their urges and greed. They have no qualms about what they steal or who from. They almost always end up being killed in brutal ways as a result of flaws in their intelligence, lack of teamwork, plain greed, or sometimes just bad luck.
Like all the other characters, they do not speak clear English throughout the series, instead an animal-like gibberish. They are both currently voiced by Kenn Navarro.

Their Villainous Deeds[]
- In general, the duo are kleptomaniacs who like to steal from everyone but are mainly driven by greed and a desire to get rich, with their most recurring target being Lumpy.
- While they do start off as more mischievous and rather small in crimes during Season 1 and most of Season 2, they partially subvert it by being more thuggish in the TV Series and Seasons 3 and 4.
- In "Wheelin' and Dealin'", they steal parts from several go-carts after they fail to build their own.
- In "Meat Me for Lunch", they try to steal a lot of meat from Lumpy as a butcher.
- In "Class Act", they indirectly caused the explosion alongside Cuddles, Lumpy, Nutty, Toothy, Giggles, Flaky, Sniffles and The Mole which killed every character on the show at the time including themselves and the other perpetrators.
- In "Don't Yank My Chain", they try to steal Handy and Mole's car, who are note handicaps. When a police officer Lumpy comes, they use their clothes and identity to successfully trick him into jailing Handy and Mole rather than them, therefore causing the entire episode.
- In "Easy for You to Sleigh", they try to rob Pop and Cub's tree, try to "rob" Mime's safe", and then attempt to steal everything from Flippy's house.
- In "As You Wish", they chase after a magic lamp and rip Sniffles' hands off just to take it from him.
- In "Who's to Flame?", they steal Pop's wallet from his burnt dead body, as then they fight over it. When Lifty gets crushed by a motor, Shifty takes it with no care for his brother.
- In "Gems to Break", after discovering Splendid's weakness towards the Krypton-Nut, they exploit it and do multiple crimes with it, not afraid of Splendid anymore. They kidnap and bind Giggles and Petunia later in the same episode.
- In "Junk in the Trunk", they abduct tons of pets. In the same episode, they manipulate Cuddles to help them lift up an elephant with a rope, but they then ditch him and take his mouse, callously leaving him to be brutally ground up.
- In "Swelter Skelter", Shifty kills Nutty by making him trip on his leg, cracking Nutty's head open on the hot floor to get his ice cream. They kidnap Cro-Marmot in the same episode to cool down their room.
- Shifty is not above backstabbing, killing or abandoning his brother Lifty:
- In "Sea What I Found", Lifty gets pinned under a beam and Shifty takes all of Lifty's treasure and puts them on his own, leaving Lifty behind, clearly not caring whether Lifty survives or not.
- In "Milkin' It", while they do team up to steal the cow and use a hot air balloon to escape Lumpy, Shifty eventually throws Lifty out of the hot air balloon into a tree that impales him to lighten the load.
- While Shifty gasps in horror after Lifty's gruesome death in "Buns of Steal", he still nonchalantly kicks his head out of his veins to clear his way into the next van and laughs it off.
Why They Don't Stand Out?[]
- They fail the heinous standards to Fliqpy, who kills way more people intentionally.
- Since Happy Tree Friends is played purely for black comedy, and has zero continuity, they are too comedic and inconsistent to be Near Pure Evil even if they did pass the standards. Their stupidity and incompetence are also always played for laughs.
- They are On & Off, as in Happy Trails Part. 2: Jumping the Shark they offered Flippy, Lumpy, Handy, Sniffles and Flaky a boat ride to escape from the island, with this moment not being pragmatic. However, they both do get more malicious as the series goes on.
- Although not above killing him, Shifty is seen dragging Lifty's burned body after the school explodes in "Class Act", implying that he does care for him sometimes.
- They are seen ready to hear Splendid's Speech in "Wrath of Con", showing they may have some respect for or like him.
- Due to the violent nature of Happy Tree Friends, they are scapegoats, as they constantly get gruesome deaths that are far too extreme to serve as justified karma.
