Well, if you’re out… you’re out.
~ Leonard Snart’s catchphrase.
Make the plan, execute the plan, expect the plan to go off the rails… throw away the plan.
~ Leonard Snart’s motto.
There are no strings on me!
~ Leonard Snart’s last words before his sacrifice.

Leonard "Lenny" Snart, also known as Captain Cold or simply Cold, is a supporting character in the 2014-2023 CW TV Series, The Flash and a major character in its 2016-2022 spin-off, DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

He was an infamous supervillain with a freeze-ray who seeks the thrills of robbing and killing, and works alongside Mick Rory in such crimes, often coming into conflict with the Flash. Eventually, he joined the Legends of Tomorrow after being recruited by time traveler Rip Hunter in his war against Vandal Savage.

He was portrayed by Wentworth Miller.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

Background[]

  • He dropped out of high school and became a bank robber, eventually putting together a criminal crew for himself.
  • He tries to kill Sam Scudder and Rosa Dillion when they wanted out of his gang.

The Flash Season 1/Legends Season 2[]

  • Though he instructs his henchmen not to kill innocent bystanders during their heists, it was only for pragmatic reasons, not wanting the extra heat on him.
  • He attempted to hijack an armored car in order to steal the Kahndaq Dynasty diamond.
  • He killed one of his henchmen for trying to quit his gang.
  • He killed an arms dealer with the Cold Gun so he could steal the weapon.
  • He tried to steal the Kahndaq Dynasty diamond at Central City Museum and tried to kill Detective Joe West when he confronted him.
  • He used the Cold Gun to shoot at innocent civilians just to test his weapon’s capabilities, resulting in the death of a security guard.
  • He endangered multiple innocents by derailing a train to take advantage of the Flash’s need to save innocent people while he escaped with the diamond.
  • He joined the Legion of Doom in their crusade to obtain the Spear of Destiny to rewrite reality, manipulating Mick Rory into revealing the Legends’ plan to destroy the Spear.
  • He manipulated Mick into joining the Legion of Doom and betraying his comrades.
  • He set off a grenade to get the two warring sides of the battlefield to battle to the death while he, Mick, and Damien Darhk escaped.
  • He used the Spear of Destiny to alter reality so that he and Mick were the rulers of the criminal underworld, using their wealth to commit unlimited crimes.
  • He tried to kill Nate Heywood after he figured out the changes made to reality.
  • He tried to manipulate Mick into giving him the Spear and betraying the Legends once again.
  • He killed Amaya Jiwe by freezing her with his Cold Gun after she got the Spear, cruelly taunting Mick before shattering her to pieces.
  • He remorselessly killed the Doomworld Mick for refusing to join up with him.
  • He broke into a facility that held expensive foreign cars in an attempt to draw out the Flash for a showdown.
  • He kidnapped Caitlin Snow and threatened to kill her unless the Flash revealed himself to the world.
  • He used his sister to lure Cisco to their base and threatened to kill Cisco’s brother to force him to remake Snart and Mick’s weapons.
  • He forced Cisco to tell him who the Flash is by threatening his brother’s life, even torturing him by painfully freezing Dante’s fingers.
  • He threatened to reveal the Flash’s identity to the world if the latter imprisoned him.
  • He betrayed Barry by releasing the Pipeline inmates so they would owe him.

The Flash Season 2[]

  • He killed his own father without remorse once Lisa was safe from him. While the act was justified and Lewis deserved it, even the Flash questioned it.
  • Though he does warn Barry about Mardon and Jesse plotting against him, Snart doesn’t help Barry defeat them and simply returns to his criminal activities.

Legends of Tomorrow Season 1[]

  • He initially only joined with the Legends so he could take advantage of time travel to steal more valuables.
  • He was willing to kill Per Degaton as a child to prevent him from allying with Vandal Savage in the future. Though he had good intentions behind this, it was still quite questionable.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • While he’s certainly bad enough to cross the general baseline, he still fails the massive Heinous Standards of the Arrowverse.
  • He’s tragic due to being abused by his father and eventually turning to a life of crime.
  • He cares for some people:
    • He genuinely loves his sister as he would constantly protect her from their abusive father and practically raised her. He only started working with his father after the latter put a bomb in Lisa’s head.
    • He cares about his partner, Mick Rory due to the latter saving his life after Snart was stabbed in juvie. Even after Mick betrayed the Legends, Snart couldn’t bring himself to kill him and simply knocked him out. He later reconciled with Mick and later took his place to remain behind to destroy the Oculus.
    • He has some respect for his enemy Barry Allen, as he spared him several times despite having many opportunities to kill him and doesn’t team up with Mardon and Jesse to kill him out of gratitude towards Barry for saving his sister’s life. He also told Barry not to become like Savitar to defeat him, stating his goodness was his strength.
    • He cares for his teammates, the Legends, saving their lives multiple times and ultimately sacrificing himself so they could defeat Savage. He also genuinely loved Sara Lance and shared a kiss with her before sacrificing himself.
  • He has moments of honor:
    • He was genuinely affable to a random kid at the museum, even offering him a stick of gum.
    • After forcing Cisco to reveal the Flash’s identity, he releases him and his brother unharmed instead of just killing them right there.
    • Despite betraying Barry, he saves him from Deathbolt and doesn’t kill him when he had the opportunity to do so.
    • He warns Barry about Mardon and Jesse’s plans to get revenge on him out of gratitude towards Barry for saving his sister’s life, despite Mardon breaking him out of prison.
  • He has some standards as he is appalled by his father’s actions and also seems disgusted by the Trickster’s antics.
  • He redeems himself by joining the Legends to stop Vandal Savage from taking over the world and eventually sacrificing himself to destroy the Oculus.
