| ~ King Dedede about Kirby. |
King Dedede is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Bandana Waddle Dee) of the Kirby franchise.
He is a large blue penguin who is the king of Dream Land. Originally the archenemy of Kirby, they eventually become frenemies and Dedede decides to become a hero for the rest of the series, becoming increasingly less villainous in recent games.
He is voiced by Shinya Kumazaki.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- In the first game, he stole all the food from the inhabitants of Dream Land, which leads to Kirby going after him to retain the food and bring it back.
- Also, it's explicitly stated that Kirby needs to hurry up otherwise the people of Dream Land would starve to death, so it's not Fridge Horror.
- He attempted to kill Kirby countless times throughout the series.
- Despite his good intentions, he took the Star Rod out of the Dream Fountain and never explained to anyone why, likely doing it out of pride.
- He doesn't really do his job as a king properly, resulting in the government of Dream Land not being functional and in a state of chaos.
- He can be a greedy, gluttonous and selfish, which frequently causes him to ignore the well-being and safety of others and he is mostly worried about himself, thus proving that he isn't a great friend.
- He endangered Kirby by setting up multiple traps to take him out.
- He teamed up with Meta Knight to defeat Kirby in Kirby Fighters 2.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- Although attempting to starve a populated kingdom is more than enough to pass the general baseline due to the large number of people that would have been killed, he ultimately fails the massive heinous standard of the franchise as there are lots of villains who seek to destroy planets, with a few even being outright omnicidal to the point where his lower resources can't help him stand out. Even then, he still fails compared to Dark Meta Knight, who has similar resources due to having a comparatively big army but killed millions, which surpasses Dedede's attempted kill count which is in the hundreds to thousands.
- He was on & off, as he has helped to defeat villains like Dark Matter, Queen Sectonia, Hyness and Magolor. He later redeems himself, as Kirby doesn't see him as a villain anymore and Dedede is more than willing to help Kirby stop dangerous threats in and out of Dream Land.
- He is barely taken seriously and has numerous comedic moments that detract from his villainy, such as him being forced to be used for comical slapstick and puns, him being humiliatingly brainwashed by other villains, him being defeated in the silliest ways possible and he also has an attack that has him tripping and falling on the ground. He can also be very laughably evil that he can't be close to NPE.
- He is a scapegoat due to sometimes getting punished for stuff he didn't do, such as in Kirby's Squeak Squad where he gets beaten up by Kirby due to Kirby thinking Dedede stole his cake, when it was actually the Squeaks who did it.
- He genuinely cares about his Waddle Dees, as he throws one of his Waddle Dees that tripped onto the elevator with Kirby and the other Waddle Dees and he also tried to hold off the Beast Pack.
