| “ | Screw you! What kind of bullshit is this? That bitch is dead. If she's dead, the money should be ours! That damn baby's done nothing to deserve it! | „ |
| ~ Kim Gi-min protesting the idea of Kim Jun-hee's baby becoming a player |
Kim Gi-min (Korean: 김기민) is a supporting antagonist in Netflix's K-drama Squid Game. He is a contestant in the 37th Squid Game and one of the finalists.
He is portrayed by Choi Gwi-hwa.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
In General[]
- Despite joining the game due to a debt, this doesn't make him tragic, nor do it justify any of his actions.
- Despite agreeing and being cooperative with the other members of Jeong-dae's team, none of it is genuine affability and it's just selfishness and a desire to survive.
- He is arguably one of the more evil out of the Os as he actively participates in the violence and death of other characters in the games compared to Im Jeong-dae, who mainly planned and wanted to continue the games, as Gi-min was the most on board with killing Jun-hee's baby. He also repeatedly enjoys killing and is unfazed by the violence of the games. Its fitting that the Front Man gave Gi-hun the knife to "kill the trash" after him and the baby, and the only finalist he killed with the knife is Gi-min, highlighting his vile nature.
- He's arguably even more evil than Oh Il-nam, the Front Man and the Masked Officer, the game's directors, due to lacking any redeeming qualities by the end.
Squid Game[]
- The moment he realized that other players can kill each other between games, he participated in the special game during nighttime to kill as many players as he can with 26 confirmed deaths, and during it, he killed Player 094.
- He was one of the many members on Team O who mocked Seong Gi-hun for his failed rebellion.
- He murdered Player 172, and while it was necessary for him to survive, he showed no remorse for it.
- After murdering Player 172, he stepped on Park Yong-sik's glasses for no reason, while leaving.
- While he did save Yong-sik by killing 172, it was unintentional since he was only securing a win for himself. It's likely he only let Yong-sik live because the rules forbidden Seekers from attacking each other.
- Furthermore, him killing 172 also leading to Yong-sik losing a chance to score a kill to pass the game.
- He voted O without hesitation even after Jang Geum-ja pleaded for everyone to vote X.
- When Player 349 turns around back to the start, he kicks her off out of greed, which horrified everyone behind him, to which he arrogantly yells at them that they should be grateful that he get rid of a competitor to increase the prize money.
- Despite claiming that he did this for their benefits, it's obviously a lie and in truth, he did this solely for his benefit.
- He is among those to be angered by Kim Jun-hee's baby being counted as a player in her mother's place, since that meant the prize money division decreased.
- He alongside the other Team O members, attempted to kill Kim Jun-hee's baby, with him being the first person to propose killing her. What makes it worse is that he sadistically smiled when he demanded Gi-hun to give the baby. He would have succeeded if the Managers didn't intervene and give out order to forbid players from being violent toward each other in the Dormitory.
- He threatened Player 039 to join Im Jeong-dae's team.
- He displayed his hypocrisy in Sky Squid Game where he told someone to push Min-su off the tower despite that during Jump Rope he lectured Jeong-dae for telling others to go when he didn't go himself. Another case of his hypocrisy is him rushing others to push Min-su off, but when they suggest that he should did the favour if he really wished to, he hesitant out of fear of Min-su grabbing him down, showing that he's also a coward.
- Yet another case of his hypocrisy is him claiming that Myung-gi wants to kill the baby, when he himself go along with the plan to kill her from Player 039 without a second thought and was the last person to agreed to kill her on the 2nd tower.
- Unlike Myung-gi, he showed no sadness over Min-su's death, instead laughing as he complimented the former for using the pole to push him off, which doesn't count as a redeeming quality since it's more of a mockery, with Myung-gi knew this since he only look disgusted from Gi-min's compliment.
- He pushed the button on the 2nd tower without his teammates agreeing on it, demonstrating his lack of regard for his own peers.
- He tried to push Player 353 to push Gi-hun and the baby off and then nearly fought him for not doing so. What’s worse is he’s repeatedly reminded that doing so would mean he’d have to sacrifice one of his allies in the final round, implying he already was planning to betray the others.
- Alongside the other's, he tried to grab the baby away from Gi-hun.
- Out of cowardice, he brutally attacked Player 039 and even broke his leg to sacrifice on the Circle Tower. This brutal assault made Player 039 commit suicide due to not wanting to be sacrificed.
- When Seong Gi-hun refused with the lunchbox plan, he attempted to kill him.
- Him being stabbed to death by Gi-hun is not played for sympathy in any way and he deserved it, especially since Gi-hun only stabbed him out of self-defence and would have died otherwise.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- While he passes the baseline—attempting to murder a baby, participating in the Special Game, and being unable to compare to the Front Man, Oh Il-nam, and the Masked Officer—he still fails the heinous standards to Nam-gyu, Lee Myung-gi, Player 096, and Jang Deok-su, all of whom have a higher kill count. Resources do not help due to all the players having the same amount.
