Villainous Benchmark Wiki

Khalil Payne is a major antagonist in Black Lightning. In the first two seasons he is one of Tobias Whale's allies, only to betray Tobias sometime during the second season. In the third season he is Percy Odell's minion under brainwashing; Khalil's mind was taken by his alter-ego, Painkiller. In the fourth season he is a supporting protagonist and takes down Looker.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Tobias has him run into his school and dart people to cause chaos and attract Black Lightning.
  • Khalil ends up stopping Black Lightning's heart after he punches his chest. This made everyone around think he's dead.
  • He, Tobias, and Syonide attack Martin Proctor's base of operations in an act of betrayal. Khalil kills a few agents during the skirmish.
  • Tobias has Khalil go to crime houses that Tobias run, to keep the people in line. Khalil ends up killing a guy on one of the visits.
  • After being reborn as Painkiller, he killed many people for the A.S.A including his own mother.
  • He poisoned Anissa and nearly killed her until she got a cure from Peter Gambi.
  • He almost killed the Pierce family many times before he regained control of himself.
  • Even after redeeming himself he is really lethal. Therefore, he passes the baseline.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • He massively fails the standards since he only kills a few people as a villain and lots of his kills in Season 4 are when he's an anti-hero. His second personality, Painkiller, did most of the kills in Season 3, so he fails the standards to him as well. He is also a cyborg, so he fails to villains like the Star City Slayer for killing more people all the while being a normal guy.
  • Khalil redeems himself in the second season by running away with Jennifer and standing up to Tobias. He does this again by fighting Painkiller in his own mind and regaining control of his body to stop Gravedigger and Odell.
  • Khalil always loved Jennifer, even as a villain. He also cares about his mother, Jen's family, and his other self Painkiller, since he sympathized with him after Painkiller revealed he also missed Jen.
  • He's a huge scapegoat for being manipulated by Tobias to be his weapon, and Tobias was the reason Khalil was crippled to begin with, yet Tobias used his injury to groom him and make him a dangerous toy. Tobias abuses him after Syonide dies. After betraying Tobias, he rips out Khalil's cybernetic spine and he dies. Odell brings him back as Painkiller, without Khalil's personality and to be used for killing until he dies. Even when he becomes free and his own vigilante, he can't see his friends because the kill order Odell installed in Painkiller is still in his mind. He has to lose his memory in order to keep Jennifer safe.
  • He spares a tied Giselle Cutter, despite her arguably deserving to die. This shows that he isn't always lethal.
  • He is affable since he's nice to his friends and his allies. If anything he only fakes being mean, since he often pretends to be threatening in order to do Tobias' bidding, or to fool an enemy.
