Kannin is the overarching protagonist of the AMC series Into the Badlands.

She is one of the lost children of Azra, alongside Sunny and Pilgrim. At a young age she sacrificed herself so that the two of them could be safe from the Black Lotus, but ended up being captured and brainwashed by the organization in the process. She is then turned into Magnus' weapon, using her Gift to kill countless Dark Ones, regardless of if they were actually dangerous.

She was portrayed by Eugenia Yuan. As a child, she was portrayed by Ella Bleu Kiely.

• During her time as a mindless weapon for the Black Lotus, she kills in their name without remorse. Due to the Black Lotus belief that anyone who is a Dark One needs to be eradicated, they do not care if the individual Dark Ones they kill actually pose a threat to the world, and thus kill innocent people with the Gift the same as those who actually are dangerous. Due to her blindly obeying the cult, Kannin has undoubtably killed innocent people on their orders.

Why Doesn't She Stand Out?

• Her character's villainous actions are the result of being abused and brainwashed by Magnus to the point that she was fully obedient to the Black Lotus. This not only makes her a tragic character, but it also causes her to fail the heinous standards massively to other mass murderers such as Magnus who did it willingly and took sadistic glee in the process.
• Following her being freed from her brainwashing by Sunny, she becomes a completely heroic character to the point that she is considered a Near Pure Good hero, and participates in the final battle for the Badlands, trying to stop Pilgrim from his conquest.
