I'm saying things got out of hand. Maybe they did take advantage of her! Maybe the sad truth is, this is not the city for innocence. No charges were brought. And the bottom line is, Rena Reynolds wouldn't play by the rules. You wanna get ahead in Hollywood, you gotta play the game or go home.
~ John Milton

Jonathan "John" Milton is the overarching antagonist of the Scream franchise.

As a devious and greedy film director, he is the one responsible for gang-raping Maureen Prescott, leading to the birth of Roman Bridger, and thus setting the events of the franchise in motion. He is implied to be Roman's father.

He was portrayed by Lance Henriksen, who also portrayed Penrith in Into the Badlands.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Thirty years prior to the events of Scream 3, he lead a gang rape against Maureen Prescott, which really broke her mentally.
  • He is indirectly responsible for all of the events in the franchise.
    • Because of his actions, Maureen couldn't love her son Roman Bridger, which caused her to reject him and push him away, which turned Roman into a vengeful serial killer. This also caused Maureen to become a loose woman who slept with multiple men. She ended up sleeping with Hank Loomis, separating him and his wife, which caused their son Billy to kill Maureen for it with his best friend Stu Macher being his accomplice.
    • Having likely SA'd Maureen himself on at least one occasion, it's also implied that he could possibly be the father of Roman.
  • It is somewhat implied that he pressured Angelina Tyler to sleep with him as Angelina admitted that she slept with him to get a leading role.
  • He utterly lacks any redeeming qualities or mitigating factors of any form.
  • Arguably worse than even the worst of the killers themselves, he is the first victim of Ghostface in the franchise who totally deserved his demise for everything he has done.

Why He Doesn’t Stand Out?[]

  • While his crimes certainly pass the general baseline, he massively fails the high heinous standards of the Scream franchise.
  • While he is indirectly responsible for all of the Ghostface killing sprees, there is no way he could’ve predicted this.
  • He suffers slight fridge horror as the gang rape is never shown and is only mentioned by Roman.

Trivia[]

  • He was originally considered Pure Evil, but was eventually cut after it was decided he was too standard for the franchise.
