ā€œ My good friend, we have a job vacancy, perfect for you. Commander of my minions, leader of this impressive group of idiot fish. ā€ž
~ Joe attempting to make Fly and his family join him.

Joe is the main antagonist of the 2000 English-Danish animated film Help! I'm a Fish. He is a sadistic and tyrannical pilot fish who drank some of Professor Mac Krill's potion which made him highly perspicacious and intelligent before plotting to rule the oceans with an iron fist as well as create an army of intelligent and sentient sea creatures. He is also the archenemy of Fly, Chuck and Stella and the former master of the Shark and the Crab.

In Danish, he was voiced by Nis Bank-Mikkelsen. In the English version, he was voiced by the late Alan Rickman, who also portrayed Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • After the antidote has opened and was spilling in the sea, and a pilot fish and a shark drink it, gaining human-like features. The pliot fish (named ā€œJoeā€) plans to use the antidote to attempted to dominate the world with a army of intelligent fish.
  • After immediately figures out that Fly, Chuck and Stella are more than evolved fishes. He attempted to have them to make more of the antidote so as to mass-produce it. Which his real motive is to feed them to Shark once they outlive their usefulness, lest they outshine him.
  • He locks the kids in a cage when Fly try to explain that he didn't remember the potion's ingredients and condemned Sasha to labor.
  • Attempts to have Shark and Crab executed when they failed to stop Fly, Chuck, Stella and Sashaā€s escape.
  • He only appoints Shark as his general to distract him and later fried him due to his stupidity.
  • When the kids find their way to Mac Krill's house through the pipes connected to the sea to get the second bottle of antidote, Joe follows them, steals the bottle once they find it, and opens a tank full of piranhas to get them eaten alive. This action has revealed he is completely beyond redemption when he leaves them to be eaten, knowing full well that these characters are transformed humans that need the potion more than he does.
  • While his death was horrifying, it isn't played sympathetically nor is it excusable for his actions at any point in the story.
  • While he does have a minor comedic moment, where he gets beaten up by Crab, this doesn't detract too much from him being taken seriously because he's still taken completely seriously in-universe.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • He is mostly a generic tyrant with a very low kill count of four and generic villainous acts, and the ones that aren't relies on Fridge Horror as its unknown how bad his plans to take over the world will be and having hungry piranhas is not shown to have much harm or death to the childrens who were fishes.

Trivia[]

  • He was originally considered Pure Evil, but as the heinous standards changed overtime, he was eventually rejected due to him relying on Fridge Horror.
