| ~ Jimmy Pegorino asking Niko Bellic a question during their first official meeting. |
James "Jimmy" Pegorino is the secondary antagonist of the 2008 video game Grand Theft Auto IV.
He was an over-ambitious mob boss, and the leader of the Alderney based Pegorino Crime Family, which he took over after his father died. He is looked down upon by the Liberty City based Mafia organizations, and he is unable to get a seat on The Commission. Towards the end of the game, Pegorino later gets involved in a major gangland collusion with Russian crime lord Dimitri Rascalov.
He was voiced by Tony Patellis.
HIs Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- Prior to the events of the game, he was arrested for grand theft auto, stolen property possession, armed robbery, grand larceny, promoting gambling, hijacking, manslaughter, and racketeering respectfully.
- As the leader of a crime family, he is responsible for crimes such as murder and pharmaceutical trafficking.
- Most of the plot during the Lost Of The Damned is indirectly caused by him due to Ray Boccino being a Caporegime in his organization.
- After the Pavano family injures him in an ambush, he has them massacred later while they are in a car dealership.
- Despite his undying loyalty, he shows no remorse in having Niko unplug Anthony Corrado’s life support.
- He claims to Niko that after his son’s death, he abused his bodyguard Anthony just like how he did to his son.
- Despite being married, he is never shown to love his wife. In fact, he tells Niko outright that he wishes his wife left and brags about having a goomah.
- Even though he had no evidence towards him being an informant, he orders Niko to kill Ray and his crew.
- In the Revenge Ending, after Niko denies to work with Dimitri, he tries to assassinate Niko but kills Kate and almost kills multiple of Niko's friends.
- While he does get angry at Dimitri for betraying him, it is only because he thought that he "was on the top".
- During the Revenge Ending, Jimmy taunts Niko about Kate's death, saying "I'd clip that b**ch again if I had the chance."
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While his high kill count allows him to pass the baseline, he fails the massive heinous standard to most crimes' bosses. It doesn't help that his high kill count is done by proxy.
- He’s too incompetent to be NPE or PE as most of his decisions resulting in his crime family's downfall severely detract from his villainy:
- He had Niko Bellic kill Ray Boccino on the assumption that the latter was a police informant without any evidence. This meant that Pegorino lost his crime family's top earner.
- He hired random criminals like Luca Silvestri, Johnny Barbosa and Joe DiLeo without screening them which contributed to them trying to steal the diamonds.
- He talked about plans in his office without checking for wiretaps.
- He accepted meeting the Pavano family in an isolated ransacked area which turned out to be a trap. The only reason Pegorino survived was because Niko saved him by killing the Pavano family mobsters.
- He accepted a heroin deal with Dimitri Rascalov not knowing it was a trap which will have led to his death.
- When Niko and Phil manage to escape with their lives with the money in the Deal Ending, Pegorino only celebrates that he got the money instead of being concerned over the fact that Dimitri betrayed Niko and Phil. To make things worse for Pegorino, he never retaliates against Dimitri and instead looks visibily dumbfounded when the latter kills him despite the latter's obvious treachery.
- He was so stupid and inept as a crime boss that even the Commission thought he was a "fat f--king joke" as lampshaded by Niko in the Revenge Ending.
- He is genuinely affable to Niko, as he values his loyalty and always praises and rewards him for his work and if the player the Deal, he tells Niko to look after himself and is seemingly unaware about Dimitri sending a hitman to Roman's wedding.
- He is also affable to Phil Bell for his honor and loyalty.
Trivia[]
- Jimmy is one of the few villains in the entire GTA franchise to have their antagonist role to be completely determinant.
