ā | So here I am, at probably the worst school in the country. Whose alumni are nothing but arms dealers, serial killers and corporate lawyers. Real scum, and that old creep thinks he can tame me? We shall see, my friend. I only give people what they have coming to them. | ā |
~ Jimmy, upon first arriving at Bullworth Academy. |
James "Jimmy" Hopkins is the main protagonist of the 2006 video game Bully. A fifteen-year-old teenager, he was dumped at Bullworth Academy, the alleged worst boarding school in the country, by his mother and new step-father.
He's a juvenile delinquent with a troubled past, who has been expelled from seven different schools due to a variety of reasons, including violence, graffiti, and disrespecting staff. And although he later has a redemption arc and grows to be a better person by the end of the game's story, he still commits many villainous acts both in-canon and in free-roam.
He was voiced by musician Gerry Rosenthal.
His Evil Ranking[]

- Kicks dogs around the town.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- While having villainous actions, most of his screentime plays for heroism, making him admirable more than heinous.
- He massively fails the in-story standards to Gary Smith, Gurney, Edgar Munsen, and even Mr. Burton. While some may think that he outheinouses Mr. Burton by sexually harassing little girls, this action of him has nothing to do with the main storyline, making it non-canon and decreasing its impact.
- He has standards, as he shows genuine disgust towards the bullying and corruption at the school, Gary's actions, Mr. Burton's sex crimes, Lola's disloyalty towards Johnny, and Earnest's perverted actions.
- Generally has a tragic side, as he was raised in an unsteady family who lacks a genuine father figure and grew up with a neglectful mother who constantly marries and divorces, which eventually caused him to get ditched at Bullworth Academy, the worst school in the country.
- He shows care for others around him and has a sense of honor.
- In storyline, Jimmy repeatedly makes it very clear he's appalled by Bullworth Academy's internal conflict and bullying, motivating him to bring an end to it out of a genuine desire to do good. Along the way, he voluntarily aligns himself with outcasts.
- Although he can somewhat be a jerk to him at times, he has a genuine friendship with Pete, has gone to him for advice a few times, and defended him from the Jocks. In fact, his jerkish moments are less prevalent as the story progresses, and at the end of the game, he requested Dr. Crabblesnitch to make Pete the Head Boy of the school.
- He helped Mr. Galloway overcome his alcoholism and depression.
- He showed no hostility towards Russell after fighting him and chose to befriend him as long as he stopped bullying innocent students. He also helped out Johnny Vincent with his relationship problems between Lola, knowing that Johnny's anger was justified. Additionally, he befriended Edgar after defeating him and got him to help with pacifying Bullworth Academy while it was under Gary's control.
- He genuinely had a crush on Zoe, helped her get enrolled at Bullworth Academy again by exposing Mr. Burton's pedophilic crimes, and eventually became her boyfriend.
- A majority of the errand side-missions involve him helping out students and townsfolk across town.
- He has expressed clear remorse for his bad actions and made up for all of them.
- He was extremely reluctant to take inappropriate pictures of Mandy, and he berated Earnest for coming up with that scheme to begin with. He also only did it so that he could progress further into Earnest's plan of taking down the Jocks, the biggest bullies on campus. Shortly afterwards, he comforted Mandy and took down the pictures once the Nerds hung them up as posters across town.
- When his fame and popularity were stripped away from him after he became egotistical for a brief period of time at the start of Chapter 5 (which blinded him from Gary's oncoming attacks), he suddenly remembered why he constantly stood up to bullies in the first place. As a result, he sought out to clear his reputation and save the school from Gary.
- He develops a redemption after defeating Gary Smith, cheering the pacification with the other students and also narrating that the life will be easier than before. It is also stated by Word of God that Jimmy would end up being a happy, law-abiding member of society and not resort to a criminal life, as he "is not that level of degenerate" and "was an unpleasant soul, but he had a heart".
- While it is true that he can still do evil actions even after the end of storyline, many of the crimes in the game are not included to main story and only in a freeroam state, thus making them non-canon extensively.
