| ~ Jango to his son Boba before fighting Obi-Wan, not wanting his son to get hurt. |
Jango Fett is a major antagonist in Star Wars, serving as the secondary antagonist of Episode II - Attack of the Clones.
He is a legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter and warrior who hailed from the planet Concord Dawn. He is the father of Boba Fett and the genetic template of the army of clone troopers. He was hired by Darth Tyranus to assassinate Padme Amidala, which led to his undoing as Obi-Wan Kenobi discovered the army, confronted him on Kamino, and tracked him down as Jango escaped to Geonosis, where he died in the first battle of the Clone Wars.
He is played by Temuera Morrison.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
In General/Background[]
- While honorable, Jango is also shown to be greedy and does things for money, as he still took jobs despite being paid handsomely for the clone army.
- In Legends, he fought along with Death Watch for many years.
- After becoming the leader of Mandalore, he led the Death Watch to crush a rebellion on the planet Galidraan in exchange for information on Tor Vizsla.
- The Galidraan governor was working with Jango's enemies and called the Jedi to wipe the Mandalorians out due to being framed for wiping out civilians.
- When the Jedi were sent to deal with the Death Watch, Jango killed 6 of them in revenge.
- When Dooku (who was one of the Jedi on Galidraan) realized that they were set up it contribution him to being delusion with the Jedi Order. Even years later, Dooku told Jango that the Jedi were set up, Jango told Dooku he didn't care for his excuses.
- After being enslaved and escaping, he tracked Tor Vizsla and killed him (although Tor deserved it for killing his mentor and adoptive father).
- He mentored Cad Bane into becoming a more ruthless bounty hunter, making him partially responsible for his crimes.
- After the Hutt Clan hired him to go after a thief named Phaedra, he agreed to a deal she struck, helping her elude Marshal Buck Vancto of the Benelex Marshal Service in exchange for three times what Jabba the Hutt was paying. Two days later, he met up with Phaedra once more on Malastare and was given 10% of her bet at a trifecta.
- He took his son Boba on a mission to Ord Mantell, where Rinn, Tiver, and several bounty hunters betrayed him and threatened Boba's life.
Attack of the Clones[]
- He is implied to have a long history of combat before his debut appearance, based on the dents and marks on his face.
- He was hired by Count Dooku (Darth Tyranus) to assassinate Padmé Amidala.
- He sent Zam Wesell to do his bidding, trick investigators, and obscure his involvement in the assassination plan.
- This means he is responsible for all of Zam's crimes as well (attempting to use a venomous centipede-like creature to kill Padmé in her sleep, resisting arrest, and trying to hunt down Anakin and Obi-Wan for intervening).
- He participated in a Sith-led conspiracy to destabilize the Republic with Count Dooku (Darth Tyranus) and provided genetic material for the Grand Army of the Republic without disclosing the Sith connection.
- When Order 66 happened, Jango's clones executed their Jedi friends, making Jango indirectly responsible for the rise of the Empire.
- He killed Zam Wesell in cold blood to prevent her from exposing his plans to Anakin and Obi-Wan.
- He fought and tried to kill Obi-Wan in a duel on Kamino when he tracked him down.
- He attempted to kill Obi-Wan again with multiple missiles in a dogfight on the way to Geonosis.
- He participated in the Battle of Geonosis against Republic forces, where he shot down Coleman Trebor and killed a Reek beast before being decapitated by Mace Windu.
- Is indirectly responsible for his son Boba Fett's crimes to some extent, as Boba was influenced largely by vengeance and a desire to honor him.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- He fails the high heinous standards of Star Wars due to having few victims, and other bounty hunters such as Cad Bane have committed worse acts with similar resources.
- Despite his crimes, Jango is mostly portrayed as a neutral figure trying to survive.
- In fact, like his son Boba, Jango is also pretty honorable, which the pirate Hondo Ohnaka, acknowledges and respects him for it. He also gave Phaedra a chance to pay him 3 times Jabba was going to pay him.
- While the clones he provided material for were programmed to follow orders without question and their inhibitor chips could override their morality, they were genuine heroes for most of the war up until Order 66, with three of them (Fives, Echo and Rex) even being Pure Good, making Jango indirectly responsible for their service and good deeds during the war.
- He genuinely loves his cloned son, Boba, even having agreed to the creation of the clone troopers because his one request (to have an unaltered clone to raise as his son) was granted.
- This is further proven when he tells his son to get on board his ship before fighting Obi-Wan Kenobi, not wanting his son to get hurt.
- In Legends, he genuinely loved his mentor and adoptive father, Jaster Mereel, being angered by his death. He also cared about his friend Rozatta, who was like a mother to him and was angered that Montross killed her.
- He is also tragic as he grew up along before he was founded by Jaster and fought in the Mandalorian wars. He was later enslaved for years and also was disgraced by his fellow warriors.
Trivia[]
- Interestingly, he and his son Boba Fett are both Villainous Benchmarks.
