Simon Petrikov, formerly known as the Ice King, is one of the main characters of Cartoon Network's Adventure Time franchise.
He is a human antiquarian who, during the span of the Great Mushroom War and Earth's shift into the Land of Ooo, was transformed into a deranged ice wizard by a magical crown that came into his possession. In the present, he would become a villain known for kidnapping princesses in the hope of turning one of them into his bride, and trying to force Finn and Jake to become his friends. However, as the series progressed, he would gradually be depicted as a tragic figure and become far less antagonistic, often serving as an ally and friend to Finn, Jake, and the other protagonists. He is the ruler of the Ice Kingdom, Gunter's master, and the former arch-rival-turned-ally of Finn and Jake.

- He kidnapped many princesses more than once.
- He hypnotized Old Lady Princess to force her into marriage.
- In "Still", he poisoned Finn and Jake so they couldn’t move their bodies because he thought it would give him a chance to befriend them.
- In "The Eyes", he disguised himself as a horse to spy on Finn and Jake and learn how to be happy.
- He tried to use a love honey on the Breakfast princess.
- He hired a hitman and sent him on Finn and Jake (though he meant to literally hit them, not kill them).
- He took body parts from numerous princesses to make his wife.
- He kidnapped Lemongrab, Tree Trunks, Shelby and N.E.P.T.R. and he put them in a mysterious dungeon with himself to help him got to the end even though he could asked them for help first.
- In "Friends Forever", after freezing his friend Abracdaniel, brought to the Ancient Wizard who Give Life to trick him into making his things come to life. After his things didn't want to be his friends, the Ice King I froze them and presumably killed them by throwing them away. However, the latter could be justified since they were making fun of he and they turned against him.
- He kidnapped Finn to hand him over to the Empress.
- Under the orders of pantice he kidnapped Princess again.
- While he was almost never taken seriously in earlier seasons, he subverted his comedic nature as the series delves into his tragic backstory with the effects of the crown being played for horror and his weird comedic antics only showing how mad the crown had driven him.
- After returning to normal, he murdered Choose Goose to perform a ritual to see Betty again. Even though Choose Goose had turned evil, it was still highly questionable.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- While him trying to force Old Lady Princess into a marriage is enough to pass the baseline, he fails the Heinous Standard of the series compared to other villains who commit far worse atrocities than him. Although the Lich is an unfair comparison, he is still outdone by Ice Finn who using the same crown, froze millions of people and established a reign of terror in the Farmworld dimension, Patience St. Pim who turned the Land of Ooo into a dystopia, Warren who killed hundreds of his own children as if he would stay forever young, and Stag who kidnapped all the Candy people and stuck them on the wall, all of whom have similar or lesser resources.
- He has huge moral agency issues because the crown is the reason for his mental disorder making him not have complete control over his actions or even have awareness that his crimes are wrong.
- Even in this state he still cares for Marceline, showing that he would rather give up his love affair for Marcy's safety.
- He does care for Gunter.
- Although at the beginning he is an enemy of they, finally forms a stable and genuine friendship with Finn and Jake. Even several years later,He is on good terms with Finn.
- Although the status of his friendship with Abracadaniel is unknown, It was shown that they had a good friendship .
- He also has a genuine friendship with the Ancient Wizard That Gives Life, given that They are seen having a good time and the latter helps him on his date with Betty. Because several years later he is among his contacts, It is implied that they are still friends.
- He was genuinely in love with Betty, although sometimes he will think more about his ideas than in hers, still loves her very much and was devastated when she merged with GOLB.
- This extends to Fionna and Cake, since after discovering that they were real he did everything possible to help them to save his world even though he was apathetic at first. It is shown that he formed a friendship.close with Fionna especially .
- He is immensely tragic, as he was once a normal human named Simon Petrikov who was driven insane as a result of exposure to the crown that drove his girlfriend away from him. He was forced to continue using the crown during a nuclear apocalypse to protect Marceline, and is now completely lonely and depressed from a complete lack of social interaction and his inability to remember his past. This is played for heavy sympathy by the narrative, with Finn and Jake being nicer to him after learning about it.
- He helped Island Lady break up with her neglectful boyfriend. He is also shown to be a genuine friend to her.
- He used to be on and off, but later on, he redeemed himself.
- While he killed a horde of Oozers it was in self-defense and he had no other choice, making this act justified.
- In the episode "Mortal Recoil", when he discovered that Bubblegum was regressed into a 13-year old teenager, he absolutely refuses to capture her, much less date her, because the Ice King knows that it would make him a pedophile, showing that he has standards.
