Robert Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk, is a major antagonist in Marvel Zombies, which takes place in an alternate version of the Marvel Universe, called Earth-2149, where all super-powered beings became infected by an extraterrestrial virus which transformed them into Zombies.
Like most other Marvel superheroes, he ended up becoming infected with the zombie virus in an alternate reality known as Earth-2149. Unlike most incarnations of the Incredible Hulk, who are mostly aggressive, but good in nature, this zombified version of the green giant is even more of a rampaging beast who becomes eager to eat human flesh.
He appears as a supporting antagonist in Ultimate Fantastic Four #22-23, a minor character in the Marvel Zombies: Dead Days one-shot, a minor antagonist of Marvel Zombies Vs. Army of Darkness, one of the main protagonists of the Marvel Zombies, a major antagonist in Marvel Zombies 2 limited series, and one of the main antagonists of the Black Panther 2005 comic series issues #24-30. Additionally, his Earth-91126 counterpart serves as a major antagonist turned anti-hero in Marvel Zombies Return and his Earth-21050 self appears as a minor antagonist in Marvel Zombies: Evil Evolution.
He was created by Mark Millar and Greg Land.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- Alongside other fellow zombies, he chased Magneto through the streets of a ruined New York City and mercilessly devoured him along with his teammates. The zombified Hulk particularly got to consume one of Magneto's feet.
- Attacked Silver Surfer along with the other zombies and devoured him. Upon gaining Silver Surfer's cosmic powers, he and the rest of his teammates fried and devoured other zombies to test if they had a better taste once fried, though their taste was still bad.
- Taking Galactus' title as "Devourers of Worlds" with his Cosmic Powers, he and the Zombie Galacti took their hunger to the stars, attacking and devouring all life in the universe over forty years, even zombifying individuals like Thanos, Gladiator, Dark Phoenix and Firelord.
- He kills Thanos by smashing his head.
- On their way back to Earth, to repair Tony Stark's portal so they could go to another universe, he and the Zombie Galacti stopped on Ego the Living Planet and devoured him for missing him the first time they visited that zone of the outer space.
- Hulk saved everyone from attacking the survivors but not because he wanted to atone for his past actions.
- Hulk and went on a rampage in search for uninfected humans to feed on. When he found the uninfected he was stopped by the other zombies, who have all lost their hunger. The Hulk proceeded to kill the zombies that fought him one by one.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- While aiding in eating all life in the universe made him pass the baseline, he failed the system standards as his fellow zombified teammates did too. Giant-Man and Mr. Fantastic in particular end up doing uniquely worse than him, with the former being the one who orchestrated it as well as attempting to devour the multiverse with the Watcher's technology, and the latter deliberately infecting his own teammates and further spreading the infection.
- He has some comedic moments, as upon remembering what Sentry did to him, Hulk planned to use him to wipe his butt.
- He is tragic, as Bruce is unable to control his alter-ego for very long before it starts rampaging and cannibalizing other people. This also gives him moral agency issues since he is forced to only think about consuming flesh.
- He expresses remorse for having to rely on human flesh, as he never would have descended this low if the virus did not infect him.
- His death is played sympathetically. As soon as he maintains full control of his regular form, he begs the zombies to consume him to prevent any more lives from being lost. Later on, his name is marked on a tombstone in memory with several other zombies.
