ā€œ I'm the type whose power only shows when I'm paired with someone else. Being #2 is better than #1! That's Hol Horse's philosophy of life! ā€ž

~ Hol Horse trying to betray and assassinate DIO.

Hol Horse is a major antagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, and one of the two main protagonists (alongside Josuke Higashikata) of the spinoff manga Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak.

As an assassin, he once worked for DIO to assassinate the Stardust Crusaders. He wields the Stand known as Emperor, a gun with powerful abilities.

In Japanese, he was voiced by Kei'ichi Nanba in the Drama CD, Yasuhara Yoshito in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future, Norio Wakamoto in the 2000 OVA, Hōchū Ōtsuka in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle, and Hidenobu Kiuchi in the anime and all subsquient appearances. In the English dubs, he was voiced by Roger L. Jackson (who also voices Mojo Jojo and Butch in The Powerpuff Girls, Dr. Walter Ashe and The Stranger in Telltale's The Walking Dead, and the disguised voices of Richie Kirsch, Amber Freeman, Jason Carvey, Ethan Landry and Quinn Bailey in the Scream franchise) in the OVA and Imari Williams in the anime.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Has been working as a mercenary for years, assassinating numerous people with his stand The Emperor.
  • He joined DIO to as an assassin to kill Joestar group purely for money.
  • He manipulated many girls like Nena to become his girlfriends, and then abandon them when they are not needed.
  • Nearly killed Avdol by shooting him in the head while J. Geil stabbing him in the back.
  • After knowing J. Geil was dead, he cowardly fled from Joestar group to avoid their vengence.
  • Even Jotaro saved him from Enya's attack, he refused to redeem himself, stole Jotaro's car and decided to ally with DIO.
  • He holds no loyalty towards DIO, trying to assassinate DIO to own all his money and jewlery (Though this was also because he found out about DIO's true nature when he saw all the dead women that he killed).
  • After failing to kill DIO and was threatened by the vampire, he kidnapped Boingo and ordered the latter to help him defeat Jotaro.
  • He tried to kill Jotaro's entire group by making a truck collide with them and shoot several bullets in a pipe.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • Although he did kill several people as a mercenary in the past (as is seen in his flashback) and thus passes the baseline, the exact numbers of his kills are unknown. Therefore, he fails the Heinous Standard to the likes of Gray Fly, J. Geil, and Terence T. D'Arby, who have more confirmed victims.
  • He is On & Off, as he helped the heroes on several occasions, such as informing Polnareff about Enya's abilities, trying to assassinate DIO, and cooperating with Josuke to retrieve Pet Sounds.
  • He has plenty of comedic moments that distract him from his villainy, especially with his incompetence and cowardice, making him a comic relief.
  • He is genuinely affable to his allies and friends, which is shown when he greeted Enya Geil and comforted her after her son was dead and apologized to Boingo after kidnapping him.
    • Although he showed zero concern about J. Geil's death, it is justified considering Hol Horse respects women while J. Geil is a rapist.
  • There are moments showing that he has standards:
    • He was unwilling to beat a woman, even if it would be beneficial to him according to Boingo's prediction in the Thoth.
    • He appeared to be genuinely disgusted when he found out that DIO killed the women that he slept with, and drained their blood simply because he viewed them as mere playthings.

Trivia[]

  • Hol Horse was originally intended to redeem himself and join the Stardust Crusaders, but it was scrapped due to Hol Horse being too similar to Polnareff and Araki not wanting to remove his "outlaw gunman" archetype-based character so soon.
