~ Hex to Gwen Tennyson. |
Hex is a major antagonist in the Ben 10 franchise.
He was a sorcerer who desired to rule the world through magic, and is also the uncle of Charmcaster. Unlike most villains in the original series, while he is still an enemy to Ben Tennyson, Hex is more of an enemy towards his cousin Gwen. He was eventually redeemed in Ben 10: Omniverse and became a professor at Friedkin University.
He was voiced by Khary Payton.
His Evil Ranking[]
In General[]
- He is almost always trying to take over the world.
- Like most Ben 10 villains, he doesn't hesitate to try to kill Gwen and Ben, who are both children.
- Although he genuinely loves Charmcaster, he is quite emotionally manipulative towards her, intimidating her into respecting him and bossing her around to do what he wants, treating her more like a servant.
- He is also indirectly responsible for Charmcaster becoming so villainous that she could even surpass him in heinousness, as he did not act as the father figure she needed and did not set a good example for her. He himself admits this in Omniverse.
His Villainous Deeds[]
Ben 10[]
- In "Lucky Girl", he tries to steals the Archamada Book of Spells to combine it with the Charms of Bezel and take over the world.
- He terrorized a mansion full of innocent people to lure Gwen out.
- He trapped Gwen in several roots.
- In "Tough Luck", he and Charmcaster searched for the Keystone of Bezel, which he planned to use to recreate the other five Charms and multiply his power tenfold.
- In "Don't Drink the Water", he intimidates and uses his magic to assault an old man so that he will tell him how to regain his youth.
- Intimidate the owner of the Fountain of Youth into telling him where to find the fountain.
Ben 10: Ultimate Alien[]
- In "Enemy of My Frenemy", he captures Gwen when he catches her trying to take one of his books, and only releases her when she mentions Charmcaster.
- He refuses to go help Charmcaster against Addwaitya, calling it a "suicide mission". (Although, to be fair, he has been trying to defeat Addwaitya for years and has always failed.)
Why Doesn't He Stands Out?[]
- While he passes the baseline with the innocent lives he endangered in "Lucky Girl" and teaching Charmcaster to be a villain, he massively fails to live up to the heinous high standards of Ben 10, where villains attempt to take over the world practically every week. And while comparing him to villains like Vilgax, Zs'Skayr, Driscoll, Albedo, Millious, Attea, Eon, and Maltruant is unfair given the massive difference in capabilities, he still falls short in comparison to:
- His own niece Charmcaster, who committed mass genocide to bring her father back and has a much more personal villainy towards Gwen.
- Addwaitya, who has ruled the Ledgerdomain tyrannically for years and is a more direct driver of Charmcaster's villainy.
- Zombozo, who sucks the life energy out of people, tormented Ben psychologically and tried to kill Sandra Tennyson out of sadism and spite.
- Darkstar, which sucks the vital energy of living beings in a painful way.
- Ragnarok, who erased solar systems for profit, and has a very personal villainy towards Kevin.
- Agreggor, who nearly destroyed an entire planet, in addition to absorbing and killing the aliens from Andromeda.
- Malware, which traumatized Ben and attempted to erase the Galvanic Mechamorph species, as well as his home planet.
- Kevin (who also doesn't pass in the Heinous Standards), who tried to kill more people.
- It doesn't help that he's a powerful sorcerer (and magic in Ben 10 is said to be limitless), but all he does is try to increase his power, and occasionally try to kill 3 people.
- He relies on Fridge Horror, as it is not told how bad his world domination would be. Although, given what is seen in "Time Heals", this is a minor prevention.
- He is tragic because his brother and home were taken from him by Addwaitya. He tried to defeat Addwaitya for years, but was never successful.
- Although he is taken seriously most of the time, his defeats are almost always played for laughs; especially his defeat in "Don't Drink the Water", where he turns into a child and begins to be cared for by Charmcaster.
- Even before his redemption, he genuinely loved Charmcaster and cared about her, even freeing Gwen so she can save her. In Omniverse, he apologizes to her and tries to convince her to give up her evil ways.
- He redeems himself in Omniverse, where he gives up villainy and becomes a professor at a magic college, even making peace with his former enemies, Gwen and Ben.
