~ Flintheart Glomgold preparing for the climactic confrontation with General Lunaris. |
Duke Baloney, better known as his persona Flintheart Glomgold, is the central antagonist of the 2017 DuckTales reboot series, serving as one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Lena De Spell) of Season 1, the central antagonist of Season 2, and a supporting antagonist in Season 3.
Originally a poor duck from South Africa, he would become deeply obsessed with defeating Scrooge McDuck after him as a child. He would later create a false Scottish persona and become the CEO and founder of Glomgold Industries, intending to surpass Scrooge as the richest duck in the world by engaging in various schemes to kill him and/or steal his fortune. He is one of Scrooge's two arch-rivals (alongside Ma Beagle).
He was voiced by Keith Ferguson, who also voices Lord Hater from Wander Over Yonder.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
In General/Background[]
- While he can certainly be considered insane, there is absolutely no indication whatsoever that Flintheart Glomgold is amoral, as he fully understands right and wrong and chooses wrong for the sake of undermining Scrooge McDuck every chance he gets.
- Despite having a compassionate side as a fisherman and an enemy of General Lunaris and Bradford Buzzard, the unbelievably petty and sadistic businessman has still made it clear that he is irredeemable.
- The reason why Duke Baloney became the evil Flintheart Glomgold is that Scrooge underpaid him once when he was cleaning his shoes, which is extremely petty. This was because Scrooge was trying to teach him of self reliance to make his fortune.
Season 1[]
- He hired minions (and Donald) so he can steal the Jewel of Atlantis.
- He traps Dewey, Scrooge, and Donald in the room where he stole the Jewel of Atlantis. He abandons his minions with Scrooge, the kids, Launchpad, and Donald in the Atlantis and bombing Atlantis with them.
- He made an attempted idea of killing Mark Beaks and Scrooge McDuck by luring them into a volcano with a yacht, attempting to manipulate the latter into assisting in his own grisly demise alongside Beaks.
- He and Goldie conned Scrooge for the map and the Golden Lagoon of Agony Plains for the treasure, even though Glomgold betrays Goldie and attempts to kill both of them (until Goldie sacrificed herself sparing Scrooge and had an object that she can use to temporarily become impervious to burns).
- He also claims himself to be Scrooge's love rival for Goldie's affections just to make him jealous, which Scrooge denies this.
Season 2[]
- After he regained his memories, he acted like he was going to save Webby, only to throw her into the turbulent ocean, putting her in danger of drowning.
- He is incredibly rude to Zan Owlson when all she wants is to stop him from ruining his own company with his excessively self-indulgent scheming.
- He makes Scrooge think he has gold fever. When he seemingly dies, he comes to his funeral wearing all white and playing a Ludacris track, and attempts to dance victoriously on his coffin before Owlson arrives and stops him just in time.
- When Scrooge reveals that Glomgold got played, he tries to pound him to death.
- He tries to break into the Von Drake Doomsday Vault, steal its resources, and destroy the empty stronghold once he's taken what he wants from it.
- Intending to win a wager using any means necessary, he assembles a "family" of his own involving Mark Beaks and Magica De Spell to defeat Scrooge, which includes promising Dewey's head to Don Karnage and the deed of Duckburg to Ma Beagle of all people, and Clan Glomgold is fashioned out of this alliance. This leads to a huge fight around the Money Bin and Louie briefly taking over McDuck Enterprises.
- He ensures his plan to stop General Lunaris has Scrooge dressing up as Santa Claus. Even Mrs. Beakley calls him out for going too far. He even tries to trick Scrooge into giving him his company back by writing it into a script.
- He childishly claims to everyone that he has defeated Scrooge, even though, as Scrooge indeed acknowledges, both of them were on a team united to stop General Lunaris' malevolent agenda.
Season 3[]
- He builds a Ferris wheel with a hidden cannonball, intending to use it to destroy Scrooge's house. Made worse is how he manipulates Gibbous into aiding in this evil deed, and how he tries to use Penumbra as a scapegoat, which briefly re-ignites the poor Moonlander's misguided misanthropy.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- Although he passes the baseline by trying to nuke several people in a submarine during his debut, he still massively fails the heinous standards to General Lunaris, Taurus Bulba and Bradford Buzzard (who, to a lesser extent, fails the standards himself), who all do far worse than him with similar or lower resources and less screentime in the cases of Lunaris and Bulba.
- He is too comedic for even NPE, almost never being taken seriously owing to his extreme eccentricity and incompetence, to the point of correctly acknowledging himself as the dumbest anthropomorphic duck of all time.
- He seems to show genuine love to sharks, especially ones he affectionately calls "sharkas" and "his babies".
- Although he manipulated him into helping him destroy Scrooge's house, he seemed to actually grow fond of Gibbous. He even forgave him after he got him in trouble with the safety inspector.
- As Duke Baloney, he was generally kind and friendly towards his fellow fishermen along with Webby and Louie.
- He is the one to come up with the plan to stop General Lunaris from taking Earth out of orbit, which would have caused billions of people to die from the drastic changes in temperature. This was after all of Scrooge's plans had completely backfired. Later, he, along with Magica De Spell and the Beagle Boys, comes in to turn Bradford into an actual buzzard, and he escorts Magica when she takes him away. This makes him a minor case of On & Off.
