“ | I know you found the keys. I need you to give them to me. All of them. I should've gotten rid of them right after it happened, right after my friends died. | „ |
~ Erin revealing her motives. |
“ | Time for you to go back to the Wellhouse, back where you came from! | „ |
~ Erin sadistically gloating to Gabe about abusing her. |
Erin "Vossie" Voss is a former member of the Keepers of the Keys and a major character in Locke & Key. In her youth, she fell in love with Rendell Locke and hence joined the Keepers of the Keys, but the group disbanded after Lucas Caravaggio was possessed by Gabe. Misfortune befell her when the housekeeper, Candice Whedon, found her using the Head Key. After over two decades in a catatonic state, Erin became hateful and endeavored to steal the keys from the Lockes, who had stolen them from the Black Door's populace, and destroy them, eradicating any traces of mystical power on the Earthly Plane. Several days after being freed by the Head Key, she eventually hunted down their rightful possessor and attempted to subject her to a fate worse than death by unleashing the Chain Key to drag her into the Wellhouse and make her cease to exist. But her nihilistic plans came to naught, and Eden Hawkins saved Gabe's life and allowed her to bring down Erin, saving her life and saving the keys from certain annihilation.
She is portrayed by Joy Tanner as an adult and by Nicole James as a teenager.
Her Evil Ranking[]
Her Villainous Deeds[]
- She aids her crush, Rendell, when he needlessly erases all of Duncan's memories of magic.
- When asking Tyler and Kinsey Locke to ensure Gabe leaves her alone until she is ready to strike against her, she discloses her request rudely and abrasively, unnecessarily threatening them with a knife if they do not comply.
- Upon regaining her state of mind, she becomes determined to destroy the magical keys to eliminate any traces of magic on Earth. While this seems to be genuinely well-intentioned, this is still way too extreme of a reaction.
- After surmising that to destroy the keys, she'll need to silence Gabe, she ruthlessly hunts her down while she is innocently attending a fair and unleashes the Chain Key to drag her into the well house. Even though Gabe had been fairly obnoxious to her in the past, and had Joe Ridgeway's blood on her hands, she still didn't deserve to cross the threshold. When Eden Hawkins comes to the rescue, she is unable to own up to what she's done and begs for Lucas Caravaggio's unfeasible intervention.
Why Doesn't She Stand Out?[]
- Even with low resources, she fails the heinous standard to Eden, Gabe, Frederick Gideon, and especially Sam Lesser, who have all killed innocent people. Furthermore, despite her horrendous plans, she is such an incompetent villainess that she accomplishes literally nothing with her screentime.
- She is an extremist who wanted to destroy the keys because she sincerely feared they would cause more suffering, especially for the Lockes. Additionally, part of her reason for wanting to kill Gabe is because she falsely assumed Ellie Whedon had been vengefully killed at the demon's hand. Ironically, the Lockes finished her work by getting rid of Gabe by way of the Alpha Key and disposing of the keys without actually destroying either the demon or the relics.
- She is played hugely for sympathy because the housekeeper, Candice Whedon, vacuumed up the Head Key and placed her in a catatonic state by complete accident, resulting in her having to waste two decades of her life at McCellans' Psychiatric Hospital.
- She is somewhat comedic, as she is constantly played for dark humor in the first season due to the Well Lady's quirky yet condescending perception of her, and in the second season Gabe condescendingly cuts her down to size right after Eden Hawkins' intervention.
- It seems that after two decades of being catatonic, she may have gone insane, which would present moral agency issues.
Trivia[]
- Erin harbored an infatuation with Rendell Locke at some point in the past as she had several photographs of him all over her school locker; it is never confirmed whether her interest in him comes from sincere affection or carnal desire.
