Emiko Adachi: Better than living as a Queen.

~ Emiko expressing her deep hatred of the Queen family after revealing her true colors - her most famous quote.
This is for my mother. Rot in hell.
~ Emiko killing Dante as revenge for killing her mother.
I wanted to be a Queen.
~ Emiko’s last words to Oliver before dying.

Emiko Adachi, also known as Emiko Queen, is the main antagonist in Season 7 and a minor character in Season 8 of the TV series Arrow.

She was the estranged paternal half-sister of Oliver Queen and the leader of the Ninth Circle, as well as the third Green Arrow following Oliver's incarceration. She was bent on destroying Oliver and Team Arrow's legacy as vigilantes and heroes, and killed anybody who stood in her way.

She was portrayed by Sea Shimooka.

Her Evil Ranking[]

Her Villainous Deeds[]

Background[]

  • She joined the terrorist organization known as the Ninth Circle and later becomes its leader.
  • Upon learning of Malcolm Merlyn’s plan to sink the Queen’s Gambit to kill her father Robert Queen, Emiko chose not to warn him out of spite for Robert rejecting her business proposal, indirectly enabling him to die. She even destroyed the evidence that Merlyn was responsible, which potentially could have led to his arrest and the Undertaking never happening, which Emiko shows no remorse over. this makes Emiko indirectly responsible for Oliver becoming the Green Arrow in the first place and thus every bad thing that has transpired in his life.

Season 7[]

  • She murdered Ricardo Diaz by burning him alive to prevent him from revealing anything else about the Ninth Circle, although Diaz deserved it for his crimes.
  • When Earth-2’s Laurel Lance confronts her on killing Diaz, Emiko just taunts her and arrogantly claimed that Oliver would never believe her because of her villainous past.
  • When Laurel tells Oliver about her true colors, Emiko murders Gustavo Hernandez and frames Laurel for it, later exposing Laurel’s criminal past as Black Siren and her alliance with Diaz to the public to tarnish her reputation. This led to Laurel returning to villainy for a time until Sara intervenes.
  • She stole drones from Palmer Technologies and blew up the lab containing them.
  • She threatens Dante that she would kill him if he disobeyed her orders again.
  • Upon learning from Oliver that Dante killed her mother, Emiko kills him without remorse. Though Dante deserved this fate, it still doesn’t justify the killing.
  • She sent the footage of Roy Harper killing two security guards in the subway due his bloodlust from the Lazarus Pit to the S.C.P.D., ruining Team Arrow’s reputation in the process as they claimed Emiko was responsible for the security guards’ deaths to protect Roy.
  • She revealed to Oliver about how she knew the Queen’s Gambit was rigged to blow, but didn’t warn their father about it and let him die, before blowing up the building they were in to bury Oliver and his team.
  • After seemingly killing Oliver, she attempted to kill his wife Felicity Smoak and her friend Alena Whitlock, only sparing them after realizing Felicity was pregnant. This is despite the fact that Felicity had nothing to do with her vendetta, but was willing to kill her just because she was Oliver’s wife.
  • She led her men in massacring the S.C.P.D. precinct in order to retake the bioweapon, framing Green Arrow and his team for it in the process.
  • She attempted to destroy Star City with sarin gas just to spite Oliver and destroy his family’s legacy.
  • After Oliver foils her plan to blow up the city, Emiko tries to kill him in anger.

Why She Doesn’t Stand Out?[]

  • She fails the Heinous Standards of the Arrowverse, as her worst action of attempting to destroy Star City is a very common crime, not doing anything unique enough to stand out when compared to other villains like Deathstroke, Prometheus, and Ricardo Diaz. While her personal impact on Oliver’s life was enough to pass the baseline, it still isn’t enough for her to stand out as Deathstroke and Prometheus’ actions were far more personal, while having less resources than Emiko. Although she did indirectly cause Robert Queen’s death, it still doesn’t help her case, as Malcolm Merlyn was the one who placed the bomb on the Queen’s Gambit, with Emiko simply not warning Robert about it.
  • She is genuinely tragic; when she was young her father Robert Queen left her and her mother, leading her to fall in with Dante and join the Ninth Circle, resulting in Dante murdering her mother to ensure Emiko’s full loyalty to the Ninth Circle. Her hatred of the Queen family stems from Robert rejecting her business proposal and Oliver getting everything she wanted.
  • She still cares about her mother, initially only getting in with Dante to help them prosper, even becoming the new Green Arrow to find her killer and later killing Dante when she found out he was responsible.
  • She is honorable as she spared Felicity’s life upon learning she was pregnant, not wanting to kill her unborn child, showing that she does have standards. She also spared Rene due to him believing in her and helping her in her crusade to find her mother’s killer.
  • She redeems herself in her final moments, showing remorse for her crimes, urging Oliver to go into hiding with Felicity and their daughter and sorrowfully admitting that she wanted to be apart of the Queen family. Upon being resurrected in the new multiverse, Emiko attends Oliver’s funeral and meets her half-sister Thea and Robert’s wife Moira, fully reconciling her relationship with the Queen family.
