Maxwell "Max" Dillon, also known as Electro, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside the Green Goblin) of the 2014 superhero film The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the secondary antagonist of the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home.
He is a former electrical engineer at Oscorp who had idolized Spider-Man after being saved by the latter during the year 2014 but was transformed into an extremely powerful living electric capacitor after a freak accident. A following incident with Spider-Man, led to the voices in his head manipulating him into believing he had been betrayed by Spider-Man, which enraged him and made him bent on defeating and killing his idol. He grows ruthless, arrogant and power hungry in his quest for revenge. He eventually meets his end at the power plant, when Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy overload his electricity supply by reflecting his power back to him, causing him to violently explode into millions of particles.
Ten years later, a failed spell by Doctor Strange, caused Electro, seconds before his death, to be transported to Earth-199999, where he teamed up with one supervillain from his universe and two supervillains from another alternate universe, to remain in Earth-199999 and relish in its advanced power. However, he was eventually cured and returned to his old self. After being cured, he made peace with his Spider-Man. After all the villains were cured, they were then sent back to their universes, where Max would get a second chance at life in a branched/alternate timeline.
He is portrayed by Jamie Foxx, who also played Bats in Baby Driver.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
The Amazing Spider-Man 2[]
- While he appreciated Spider-Man saving his life, he starts becoming madly obsessed with him and thinking about him way too much.
- While this doesn't seem too dark/evil, this does make him look like a 'stalker'.
- Upon listening to the voices of his head and after getting shot by a sniper, he attacks Spider-Man, believing that he lied to him.
- After being captured and experimented by Dr. Ashley Kafka, he kills him by placing him in the same place where he became Electro (Although, Dr. Ashley Kafka deserves it for what he did to him).
- He teams up with Harry Osborn (Pre-Green Goblin) to overthrow Donald Menken, which makes him indirectly responsible for his cruel, yet well-deserved, death.
- He causes a citywide blackout while challenging Spider-Man in their final showdown.
Spider-Man: No Way Home[]
- Upon arriving in Earth-199999, he started absorbing the power of electric cables.
- He tried to kill MCU Spider-Man after mistaking him for his own and would have succeeded if not for the intervention of Sandman.
- Although he initially agreed to be cured, he eventually turns against MCU Peter and steals the Arc Reactor to increase his power, thanks to the Raimiverse Green Goblin.
- Even before agreeing to be cured, he threatens MCU Spider-Man that if the plan went sideways, he would fry Spider-Man from the inside out.
- He blasted the reformed Doctor Octopus out of Happy Hogan's building in an attempt to destroy his inhibitor chip, nearly killing him.
- He tried to kill the three Spider-Men and destroy the Machhina de Kadavus so that he never has to go home.
- He mostly targeted his native Spider-Man as revenge for killing him (although, it was self-defence in Webbverse Spider-Man's side) back in their home universe.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- He's a standard "kill-the-hero" villain as him endangering billions of people while trying to destroy Machina de Kadavus was not intentional.
- He fails the Webbverse Heinous Standards to the Lizard, who nearly turned the entire city into lizards and caused more damage. Resources don't help as Electro has countless electricity powers that enable him to commit more heinous crimes on a higher scale while the Lizard just has the intelligence of a genius at best.
- By extension, he also largely fails the extremely high Heinous Standards of the MCU to many villains with less resources, most notably Crossbones, General Dreykov, Ronan, Malekith, Erik Killmonger, Red Skull, Arnim Zola, and Arthur Walsh.
- When he reencountered with Lizard and told what he did, he views his plan to transform every citizen in New York into lizards was crazy, showing that he has some standards.
- He is tragic due to being bullied by his co-workers at OSCORP and falling into a tank of electric eels, giving him insecurities. He also idolized his Spider-Man until he believed he was betrayed by him, causing his descend to villainy. All of this makes him likable, even Spider-Man feeling sorry for him for what he went through.
- He redeemed himself after being cured in No Way Home and made peace with his Spider-Man.
