Jenner: There's your chance, take it.

Rick Grimes: I'm grateful.
Jenner: The day will come when you won't be.

~ Jenner after freeing Rick's group and his most famous quote

Edwin Jenner is the final antagonist of the first season of AMCs The Walking Dead series, the posthumous overarching antagonist/protagonist of it's second and a cameo character in its spin-off, World Beyond. He is a brilliant scientist at the CDC and the husband of Candace Jenner. After her death and his one chance at a cure is destroyed, he becomes extremely cynical and suicidal, not wanting to be exposed to the horrors of the new world anymore, he sets on a mission to kill himself.

He was portrayed by Noah Emmerich.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • He tricks Rick's group into coming into the CDC and later tries to kill them all (including the 2 kids) by blowing the CDC with a self-detonating computer.
    • He actually does succeed in killing Jacqui with it, but she decides to stay by her own choice after he lets the others go.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • He fails the heinous standard of the show as mass murder is pretty common in the series, let alone attempted.
    • This is even more backed up by the fact that he has some pretty high resources, being one of the head scientists of the biggest science facility in the country, while villains like Andrew and Alpha have done similar with far lesser resources and more casualties.
  • He is truly tragic as he was once an optimistic and helpful scientist who tried his best to make a cure for the apocalypse but all the other scientists around kept killing themselves out of fear for the new world. While he and his wife kept going for the cure, his wife got bit and after giving her final wish to him which was to keep trying for the cure, died from the infection. While he did still try for the cure for a short while, his lab and tissue samples got destroyed in a fire which killed all his chances for a cure and his optimism and hope.
  • He loved his wife dearly as he always regarded her as the model scientist and was heartbroken when she died. He even tried to keep looking for a cure simply because that was her final wish before she died.
  • He genuinely was trying to help Rick's group with the mercy killing, seeing it as the only way to avoid a cruel and horrible fate, making him an extremist.
  • He was truly affable to the group and gave them a well-deserved dinner and breakfast, seeing how much bad condition they were in.
  • He lets Rick's group go after seeing them so desperate to live and decided to give them a chance to fight. He even gives Rick some final advice about the zombies, which helps him and the group more throughout the show.
  • His death is portrayed for sympathy as his final moments are spent holding hands with Jacqui and comforting each other as the building explodes.
