ā€œ Do you know what this island is named? We're on Lian Yu. Mandarin for purgatory, and I can make it feel like Hell. ā€ž
~ Fyers to Oliver Queen about Lian Yu.
ā€œ Tell me, Mr. Queen, are you prepared to sacrifice your freedom for her? ā€ž
~ Fyersā€™ last words to Oliver before being killed by the latter.

Edward Fyers is the main antagonist of the flashback storyline in Season 1 and a minor antagonist in Season 8 of The CW television show Arrow.

He is a mercenary hired by Amanda Waller to decimate China's economy by shooting down Ferris Air flights in and out of the country. Having betrayed the Chinese commander named Yao Fei, who was exiled on the island, Fyers planned to frame Yao Fei to take the fall.

However, when Oliver Queen was shipwrecked on the island, he, Slade Wilson and Shado successfully thwarted his plans and he was killed by Oliver.

He was played by Sebastian Dunn.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Evil Deeds[]

  • Hired by Amanda Waller, he planned to destroy Chinaā€™s economy by shooting down a plane heading into the country. Unlike Waller, who had somewhat noble intentions, as she only wanted to kill Chien Na Wei, Fyers only wanted to do it out of greed and sadism.
  • He shot down a plane flown by Slade Wilson and Billy Wintergreen when they came to rescue Yao Fei Gulong from the island, offering them a chance to join him, which the latter accepted. When Wilson refused, Fyers had him imprisoned in his camp for a year before Yao Fei rescued him.
  • He has Oliver Queen captured and asks for Yao Feiā€™s location, but when Oliver refused to talk, Fyers has Wintergreen torture Oliver by cutting into his body while Fyers watched with indifference. When Oliver still refused to confess, Fyers orders Wintergreen to kill him, only for Yao Fei to show up at the last minute.
  • He allowed Yao Fei to capture him so he would learn the location of his base, later having his men ambush and capture him.
  • He has Yao Feiā€™s daughter, Shado, taken hostage and threatened her life to blackmail Yao Fei into working for him.
  • When Oliver came back to rescue Yao Fei, Fyers had Fei beat him to near-death and dump his body into the river.
  • Though he granted Yao Fei 5 minutes with his daughter to reward his loyalty, it was merely for pragmatic reasons to ensure Feiā€™s cooperation.
  • When Oliver and Slade stole a circuit board from the missile launcher and demanded a way off the island in exchange for its return, Fyers agreed, only to go back on his word, threatening to shoot Shado if they didnā€™t hand it over.
  • He threatened to bomb Lian Yuā€™s jungle just to kill Oliver, Slade, and Shado, forcing Yao Fei to give up their location.
  • He revealed his plans to destabilize Chinaā€™s economy to his enemies and forced Yao Fei to take the fall for this attack. When Fei refused to do this, Fyers shoots his daughter, along with Oliver and Slade, threatening to kill them all if he doesnā€™t do it. Once Fei did it, Fyers ruthlessly killed him in front of his daughter, due to having no more use for him.
  • After Oliver foils his plans, he held Shado at gunpoint and offers Oliver a way off the island, which only wouldā€™ve been for pragmatic reasons to prevent Oliver from messing with his plans, forcing Oliver to choose between saving Shado or returning home. Oliver ultimately chooses to save Shado and kills Fyers in the process.
  • Upon being resurrected, he attempts to kill Oliver and his allies in revenge for foiling his plans before.
  • He shot down a plane containing Rene Ramirez, Dinah Drake, and Roy Harper, resulting in Roy being pinned under the debris and forcing John Diggle to amputate his left hand.
  • Upon learning of a weapon the Monitor planned to use against the Anti-Monitor during the Crisis, Fyers sought to seize it for himself. Unbeknownst to Fyers, the weapon was actually Lyla Michaels, who would end up using her powers to wipe out Fyers and his men.
  • Overall, he has no redeeming qualities.

Why He Doesnā€™t Stand Out[]

  • Although he passes the baseline, he fails the Heinous Standards of the Arrowverse to many other villains. Not to mention, his worst act of attempting to destabilize Chinaā€™s economy was under orders from Amanda Waller. His actions also suffer from fridge horror as itā€™s unknown how many people were on the plane he tried to blow up. Though Slade mentions Fyersā€™ missile launcher could start a war that could kill thousands, there is no indication Fyers ever planned on doing this. Despite Fyers attempting to use Harbinger for himself, his intentions with it were vague. The rest of his actions are too generic for him to qualify.
